February 6, 200422 yr I was at a software game store and the guy that runs it said MSwas working a patch for FS2004 that should be out in April or May,some things that were to be inprove was FPS, sound, Cloud cover problems and some other problems. Have you guys heard of anything????
February 6, 200422 yr I'd say the guy that runs it sounds like a salesperson working off of a commission or a store owner trying to look important, and doesn't have a clue. If any patch is coming, likely you'll know it when everyone else does. Truth is, just like FS2002 I'd say 90 pct. of the main items have been worked around by the users here in these forums. Any patch, if coming, will likely just use those... Salepeople can sell more product if they look informed and like they have inside "info". Sometimes, just for sport I'll browse the aisles in some of the big box stores and listen to what the salespeople say to unsuspecting customers about the computer products they sell. I've been in the I.T. business longer than the younger ones who work there have been alive, and I just crack up at some of the things that are said.... Trust me, most of it is guess work and an attempt to impress those that don't know...Sorry about the long answer, but I really get frosted when it comes to salespeople and/or store owners that will say anything to close the deal or future deals...-John
February 6, 200422 yr No. This would be the first I've heard of any such thing. So to me it is nothing more than a "rumor". Now, he might have some kind of inside information, but the only one "I" can take at their word on this would be an official word from MS. Personally, I have given up hope on a patch and fixes for FS2004 from MS. If MS does make a patch for FS2004 I'll be :-eek SHOCKED :-eek!Regards,Jim
February 6, 200422 yr >If MS does make a patch for FS2004 I'll be :-eek SHOCKED :-eek!If MS does make a patch for FS2004 you can slap me silly, ban me from the forums, and call me Shirley!*Prays Patch Doesnt Come* :-lol
February 6, 200422 yr I'll remember that!DavidPS I think I did hear something about a patch....Shirley?
February 6, 200422 yr Not to sound like dissenter, but I can't believe that Microsoft's attitude toward patches for FS has changed since 2002. Remember the "statement" issued about how they can't work on future projects when they're hassled to look backward to fix something. They released it, there it is. And why should they fix it when we do all the fixing ourselves? Granted, it's a pain in the butt to have to do all these tweaks, but could their staff do a better job than what most of us have got running based on our imminent freeware developer's work? I doubt it very much. There's a lot more talent out here, IMHO than in that office in Washington. My two cents
February 6, 200422 yr "Surely" you must be joking! :-lol :-lol :-lol(sorry, couldn't resist... :-lol) Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
February 6, 200422 yr I don't think he is joking and stop calling him Shirley! :-)I just want to say good luck and we're all counting on you.

ROFLMAO!:-waveAllcott
February 6, 200422 yr Patch? What patch?.......Read that long thread about how everyone is so "happy" with FS2004....how its the best thing since the "first comming" ..(and the big guy better watch out...some say FS2004 is better than the Second comming....even though the second hasn't even "come" yet)....read that thread and you'll see that there is no need for a patch.No....I seriously doubt that there will be a patch...although I would be among the first to be jumping for joy if one is released that takes care of that wind shift problem.BTW, those of you that insist that there is no problems with FS2004, you should contact Billy boy quickly and put a stop to all this nonsense about patches.x(
February 6, 200422 yr I reckon I'm probably more likely to win the UK lottery than a patch is to appear. On the other hand- just think how much many of us ( certainly myself) have learned about the inner workings of FS by tweaking ,adjusting etc. There is some satisfaction to be gained by taking something that doesn't work as you would like it to and getting it to do what you want .Obviously, many thanks are due to the dedicated and knowledgeable ones who have sat down and produced the various addon/substitute files that have turned an "ugly Duckling" into a reasonably good looking "Swan".All that said - for
February 6, 200422 yr Yes they can do a better job than we do. They can start by running their code in a debugging environment and hooking all signals. That would pretty quickly get rid of the seasonal CTD issue. Saying that debugging distracts them from doing work on the next version is total nonsense. They make fs2006 by starting with fs2004 and fixing things. Sooner or later they're going to have to fix some bugs for fs2006, so why not put out their fixes and call it a patch? The main reasons I believe they don't issue patches is that they feel patching software is a sign of weakness. Like admitting there are bugs in the software. Remember microsoft is more an entreprise software builder than a game builder. They're not used to issueing patches like every descent game developer does, and sadly, they can afford to loose 10% of their customers due to software bugs.
February 6, 200422 yr Yip!I have to agree ... if Micro$oft brings out a patch, I will go to the shop and buy another box just to have 2 FS2004 sets. Man, I will even buy another two sets and then I will have 3 !!!Yah sure.A patch.:-lol :-lolI'm finish ...:-lol:-lolCan not get over it!:-lol
