December 3, 201114 yr So I just decided I would pay and see what its like. I hoped to use it over christmas but when I got to shipping it said either $12 for 2-6 *weeks* shipping or $50 for ups express. I ship stuff all over the world for some flight sim stuff I make and I know that what I ship is bigger and it is 3-10 days anywhere for around 12-16 USD. This isnt a complaint against the cost although I do think an option should be in the middle, something faster than up to 6 weeks and something cheaper than $50. From past experience buying xplane stuff how long does their standard method take? I was about to push buy but it looks like I would be lucky to get it for christmas so I may as well just wait and see the later reviews.
December 3, 201114 yr Author Actually, it doesnt matter, I realised that I get a few things delivered by first class mail and it's not too long to New Zealand. I see 6 weeks are for some other countries. So now I have it I had better look for a good payware aircraft or would that be too early? I mean should I wait until they are xp 10 compat or risk having to pay an upgrade very shortly?
December 3, 201114 yr I doubt it would take 6 weeks. I think they're being cautious as they cannot control delivery once it's out of their hands. My copy ships tomorrow according to an email I received today. We'll see I guess...
December 3, 201114 yr Why don't they just offer a download option? I could download it overnight yet I have to wait for weeks and pay extra for shipping physical disks that I will use once and then put away. -

December 3, 201114 yr JimmiIt's over 80GB's of data.Even if you don't mind the wait for the download, the server costs would be crazy. There's already a Torrent option for the demo. They could use the same for system most of the full version, except a small separate download to verify that you've purchased the sim and unlock it. That would distribute the workload among many different servers and normal users.I downloaded the demo at about 10MB/s on my connection via the Torrent, which is about half the speed of a regular DVD drive (if they use dual layer DVD's it's actually around the same speed). Also you wouldn't have to constantly switch discs during the installation, so you could just leave it running and do something else while installing. Also it's unlikely that you would need to download all the global scenery at once.I don't even have an optical drive hooked up any more, because I ran out of S-ATA cables when I got my SSD. . I was planning to build my next system without an optical drive since it belongs in the past together with Amiga games that came on 15 floppy disks. -
December 3, 201114 yr Commercial Member You could always send them an email and pitch your download/torrent idea to them. I certainly wouldn't mind that option.10MB/sec? I'm envious! They did have a USB unlock option for V9. No DVD required as long as the USB dongle was plugged in. I don't see why they wouldn't have that option for V10. It was quite popular for V9.
December 3, 201114 yr Author They do have a v10 dongle option but it seems to be tied in to the commercial option as it was $750 but they do say on the site that you can unlock the 10 min problem while you wait for your disks to ship! Yeah, just a bit too expensive to get rid of the demo time while I wait for my disks..From the website 'So, you can order your pro-use keys to get out of demo mode and unlock the features above right now; there is no need to wait until December 7! You will simply be flying in the Seattle area only, out of demo-mode, until your DVDs show up shortly after December 7.'Cool, Seattle for only 750 while I wait for my disks. No wonder they don't want to get rid of the 10 min time limit while they are pushing this angle!Tongue firmly in cheek ;)
December 3, 201114 yr Commercial Member Also, IIRC, x-aviation.com is offering $5 worldwide shipping.Double check the site though
