February 8, 200422 yr This is to inform you that I have just uploaded this freeware package to the library.Shortly available, as file: rcbco-11.zipExtract:"This freeware archive contains a set of gauges, effects and sounds which you can add to existing military aircraft in FS2004, and enables you to perform takeoff and approach/landing on aircraft carriers. It features: (1): A catapult gauge, enabling a catapult-launch takeoff.(2): An arrester gauge, enabling a cable trap landing.(3): A "meatball" HUD gauge, enabling accurate ILS approaches.(4): A SonicBoom effect and controller gauge. All gauges/effects with appropriate sounds.Includes extensive installation/usage documentation, with examplesfor several very popular aircraft.By Rob Barendregt and Doug Dawson, with special input from Nick Needham."Enjoy .....Rob Barendregt
February 8, 200422 yr Sweet!! Just what I needed for Dino's new F-14! Thanks so much!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmthelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters Best, Michael KDFW
February 10, 200422 yr Thanks, Rob, it looks great. I'm just going through the (rather extensive - but better too much than too little) documentation now.But one big question? Will it work with 02?
February 10, 200422 yr The catapult and arrester should work just fine in FS'02. The XML_sound gauge will not. As such, the sonic boom will be a very quiet one...I believe that Rob's HUD will work OK - give it a try.Doug Dawson
February 10, 200422 yr Thanks, I never cared much for the sonic boom anyway and was not planning to install it.
February 10, 200422 yr You guys just made my day! I've been waiting for someone to come up with a good replacement for Arrestor Cables, and this looks like the ticket. I'll be installing it in a few hours on Dinos latest F-14 with the VC and I'll let you know how it works for me. You may just get yourselves a nice reward from "Bear" if this is as good as it looks. Thanks a bunch for your work on this.
February 10, 200422 yr Well, I've got it in and it works like a charm. IMHO, it works better than the Arrestor Cables program. But it aint easy to install! Definetly RTFM with this one guys. I remade my panel for better gauge placement and will probably post it this weekend for you all after I write up some credits for it. I also had to edit the AIR file as well as the Aircraft.cfg file to get rid of the superspoilers on this airplane. Just editing the Aircraft.CFG alone didn't do it. For everyone that loves carrier ops, this is a MUST HAVE. Heck, the sonic boom is seriously cool too. I can't say enough to praise this package. Great work guys!!!!! Todd PS. I will get this installed in some other planes and try to post the panel mods and anything else I find just as soon as possible, with the authors permission.
February 10, 200422 yr Hi,I'm pretty sure there are a few carriers, but I don't know where they're at right offhand. Hopefully someone else knows. One of them may be off the coast of California from Mirimar. Not sure. But, you can download a package in the Avsim library with the filename: accvall3.zipThis will give you 13 or so more carriers. One of them is off the coast of Florida Southeast from Jacksonville, I think(about 20 miles out). They all have an ILS on 110.20, or it may be 112.10... something like that. There is also another carrier in the Avsim Library that you could search for that is probably nicer and more detailed. It's the newest carrier that's been made for FS. It installs one that's off the coast of, it's either Australia or New Zealand. I think New Zealand. I don't know it's filename but you could probably find it by searching on the term 'Carrier' or some such.Cheers, and I hope that helps.Jim
February 10, 200422 yr >Sounds great. All I need is a carrier. Where might they be>found in FS9?Which is also ITFM :-) :-)The best one I've come across Savern Reweti's Waikato carrier.File: Waikato1.zipBut there are probably more good ones ...Rob
February 10, 200422 yr Hi Tod,"I also had to edit the AIR file as well as the Aircraft.cfg file to get rid of the superspoilers on this airplane."Well, I just tried that, but if you use a very small value for the spoiler_limit (like 1) in the aircraft.cfg, the airbrakes work perfect. No need to edit the .air file IMO.Cheers, Rob
February 11, 200422 yr Ok, I'll try that too. Still working on some combos of the two that give a nice feel at about 150 knots for landing.
