Flaps settings confusion

Featured Replies

Hello once again,I go through the first tutorial again and I read that After Engine Start the flap setting should be 22 degrees by clicking the F7-Key twice or, from the Forward Centre Pedestal, the lever to the DIAL-A-FLAP. The confusion starts after Take Off during Climbing phase. The tutorial says "Rotate the DIAL-A-FLAP selector back to 15 degrees" I don't understand that. Why 15? I thought the flaps after take off they are retracted to neutral position. I know I am somewhere wrong but where?Thank you for ur help

You need to retract the flaps/slats. The flaps/slats will be completely retracted if the flaps/slats lever is in the 0/EXT position.Rotating the DIAL-A-FLAP selector back to 15 is because flaps 15 is a normal flap selection during flap extension.

Kenny,I am not sure if i understood fully so i have a stupid question to make. If rotating the DIAL-A-FLAP selector to 0 instead of 15 then what?

You don't rotate the DIAL-A-FLAP to 0. That's not even possible. It's range is between 10 and 25 degrees. After you takeoff, you'll retract the flaps and slats normally, just pressing F6 or whatever button you use to retract flaps. Once that's done and you're following the After Takeoff Checklist, you'll rotate the DIAL-A-FLAP back to 15 degrees. That won't change anything if the flaps/slats are up. Just leave it at 15. During approach, the normal flap angle withing the DIAL-A-FLAP range is 15 degrees, and not 22 or any other setting. That's why you have to reset it after takeoff, in order to reduce you workload during the approach.

Precisely.

It cannot be clearer than that. Thank you Matheus
