Start the bell helicopter

I cannot seem to get this helicopter engine running. I see no igniter switch. Help

Look at the top of the collective lever, START. Make sure mixture lever 1 is at cutoff (if you have hardware mixture lever). Hold START until 15% then open fuel mixture lever. Prepare for a ride of your life, XP helicopters fly like RC models not full size helos.

Cheers, Andy.

Some real-world helo pilots disagree - particularly Scott Swanberg (Nightsta1ker) over at Hovercontrol. Though in fairness, he's talking about the best payware helos, not the default ones.Something I've found is that the X-Plane control sensitivities need a lot of taming, especially with helos. With the BK 117, I'm currently running at 100 percent nonlinear, 30 percent stabilization, and a 30 percent null zone. The Dreamfoil R22 seems to need even more stabilization. I'm working with a very sensitive controller (the Thrustmaster Warthog), so you milage may vary. But in general, X-Plane seems to default to high sensitivity and gets better when you back that off. It's opposite to FSX in that respect.

If you want to try a payware heli, the Aerosoft DreamFoil Bell 206 Jetranger III is on sale for a while at a 50% reduction. However, I don't know how good a model it is.

The Dreamfoil 206 is a great model, though their R22 is more recent and has some additional features. I'm not sure how well the 206 is running in XP-10, though - I'd heard there were some issues with cockpit blurring, though I haven't yet tried it myself and maybe this has been resolved. I've been dividing my time between the BK117 and the R-22.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the BK117 but I was hoping to get confirmation it works fully in XP10.

Ask Alan, he owns it, he'll give you the info your looking for.

It does, though when I first loaded it I got a message that the airfoil wasn't compatible with XP10. But if you launch the airfoil maker program (in the main folder with XP10), there's an option for updating airfoils. Once you run that, it loads with no problems. It's possible that this has been fixed through updates to either the BK117 or X-Plane or both, I'm not sure. And I may be mangling the description of how to use airfoil maker - I'm not at my XP10 computer and can't check right now - but if I'm wrong, I'm sure one of the X-Plane vets can let us know. It's a pretty straightforward process, though, and I've had no problems with the BK117 since.

I got it anyway. Really glad I did. Very nice.
