Getting the stock FSX Haze textures back

Featured Replies

You guys did a real good job on the new AS2012 thanks.I understand why some people don't like the stock fsx haze textures, but for me, it atleast gives me a reference of when I will be descending into a lower visibility area. With the current A2012, it totally removes the haze and adds the overcast layer, which I think is cool, but only for vis below 4 miles. I would personally like to re-enable the stock haze textures but at the same time still use the AS2012 overcast layer. How can I get the old visibility haze layer back?JB

Look in the WX Options page. Top right box is where you can enable/disable the haze layer. One click, hit Apply and you're good to go. I forget the exact wording but it is in the manual if you need further reference (it's a very good manual - well worth the read :) ).

Is it just me, or is your reply a bit subtle on the condescending side. Forgive if I am wrong....Have a look at the manual and or the AS2012 Interface yourself. There is no option to allow you to bring back the default FSX haze layer as durring instalation of as2012 it is removed automatically. You are given the option to use stratus or cumulus clouds to replace a low visibility layer, but like I said, no option to get the old haze layer back.So again, can someone from HI FI please comment and let me know how I can get this default haze layer back.ThanksJB

So figured it out...If anyone else wants the stock Haze back for the upper and lower Visibility Layer...Copy and paste the ORIGINAL cirrus_overcast03 into your /textures folder in FSX.Both Rex and AS2012 will replace this file upon texture instalation. So if you install textures from either program, then just replace the file again.JB

Re your assumption that I was being condescending - you are 100% absolutely wrong! It's answers like that which make others not really want to be bothered helping. I wrote that from work and didn't have the program handy, otherwise I would have looked it up (I certainly will in the future, or maybe just skip over to the next thread). I was going from memory, but what I was remembering was something out of a previous program. At least I tried, which seems like a better result than you otherwise received.Despite your paranoia, I did go back and read the manual... again (you didn't mention that you had read it) and I quote from page 65: Note: The option to “Disable FS Haze Layer” that was available in previous Active Sky versions has been eliminated. The haze layer is now automatically disabled in all cases and required for proper results of our new high-definition graphics and enhanced weather depiction routines. So no, there is no easy way through the interface to get the haze layer back.

Ok fair enough. I apologize for the comment. your mention of, "read the manual, it's a good read", sounded a bit sarcastic and condescending. Regardless, don't allow my previous post to keep u from trying to help others.Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkJB

Yeah, and I should have stated that I wasn't sitting in front of my computer at the time, so my apologies as well. And yes, it did sound a bit off the way I put things, so I'm 50% to blame as well. Sorry about that Jack. Simple misunderstanding.I noted it was in ASE that you could swap back and I think that's where I was remembering from. Thanks for posting the fix here as it might be helpful to know. Appreciate that.Again, sorry for my part, and thanks for the head's up on this :).

Copy and paste the ORIGINAL cirrus_overcast03 into your /textures folder in FSX.
Where do I find the ORIGINAL?

In the backup folder that was created the first time you ran AS.

n the backup folder that was created the first time you ran AS.
I see it referenced within AS2012 but WHERE is it located, Jim? I have searched FSX and I have seached "...app/roaming/HIFI/AS2012" but I only see a backup.xml file but no backup folder! Is it located somewhere else or is it called something else?

Hey man, if you can't find the old Cirus_overcast3 file, lemme know and I will send it to ya. Just put it away somewhere safe.. ;)JB

Thanks, Jack. I appreciate the offer. When I do a search I do find Cirrus_overcast03.bmp in my FSX Texture folder but not sure if that is the new created by AS2012 or my original. Bigger issue is that I cannot locate a folder labeled as Backup for Textures in the AS2012 directory or any place else for that matter. I am concerned that for some reason it was not created on my original install. I don't dare reinstall because it then will create a backup of what NOW is in my texture file. However, AS2012 shows a backup was created and there is a backup log file detailing that a backup took place but where is the backup folder?
