Gremlins attack PMDG 737NGX whilst in flight?

Featured Replies

So I looked out on the wings and saw a little green creature with pointy teeth grinning evilly back at me. Suddenly the aircraft developed unexpected behavour, particularly when using accelerated sim rate (8x). In the past I could fly at accellerated sim rates when I simply ran out of time and at least could finish the flight instead of hitting ESC(ape) key and terminating. Now, the plane under 8x sim rate climbs wildly and does not level off at the pre-planned cruise altitude. So that's ONE issue. Additionally, I recently recalibrated the controls (HOTAS Warthog combined with Saitek combat rudder pedals) and de-selected auto-rudder. Good news is I am obtaining max N1 (when bumped to 27K performance) at 103% of N1 under full throttle on runway holding plane with brakes. Bad news is aircraft does not appear to slow down as I would expect if I pull the throttles all the way to IDLE position (?) Shouldn't the plane slow down if flying straight and level and you pull the power off?I have noted Ryan M. admonishing that PMDG doesn't recommend using FSUIPC, but I am compelled to use it for some of the warthog functions, notably the gray slider on the right edge of the throttle, I have it configured to handle the flaps and works a treat. MIdway is flaps 10 and fully down is flaps 40 and it will move from 0 to 40 easily in either direction, much more realistic than some other 'flaps solutions' I have read about.I also am able to control the reverse thrusters if I lift and then pull further towards me (assuming plane is on the ground) the reversers will come on until I move the throttles forward to a tad above idle.So the good news is the plane performs well but I have these weird issues especially with regard to the airspeed during flight not decreasing when pulling off power, even if I disengage A/T...I have previously completely uninstalled the 737NGX (Control panel Programs/Features) and then reinstalled the base download and then applied SP1b per PMDG instructions. It's a huge hope that I can resolve the little nuances in the control surfaces and certain other concerns - a BIG one is the plane doesn't change altitude as I expect, meaning if I press ALT CHG it doesn't always respond (??) F/D is ON (both sides) CMD A is ON. ALT INTV no joy as well. Something is clearly not operating within design intent... durned if I know how to remediate it though :sad:Another weird one, sometimes for no reason, the CMD A won't re-engage, but CMD B -will- (?) It's my experience in normal flight you can use either side and both when doing CAT III landing. If the CMD A failure occurs, I can't auto-land Cat III because only one side of the A/P will engage. And of course the odd times when neither CMD A nor CMD B will engage, which makes me suspect a control surface that is 'blocking' the A/P (?)Really hopeful one of you Warthog drivers may shed some ambiance on this for me? Muchisimas Gracias!Note to readers- YES, I went into the FMC and re-installed the default airplane configuration. I typically begin a flight with the plane running parked at a gate. I configure the IRS and load the route and PERF settings including Takeoff and approach. I set the CATIII Armed in the lower console entering runway length, altitude and IRS Glideslope (3 degrees). Takeoff without A/T having CMD lit, VNAV lit. Destination Rnwy heading loaded in CRSE (both sides) and speed set to 250kt, FD on both sides, Pilot is Master. Another weird thing, I can never click a button and enter a MACH speed value, this seems wrong to me, I can only enter Knots. Shouldn't I be able to dial in, say .74 mach whilst on the ground pre-taxi? Not on my plane! So' there are things that aren't working as I expect, and I am not sure if it's "Pilot Error" (read the flippin' manual?) or "Gremlins" (?)Looking for particular help on the FSUIPC with Warthog:Can I disable the control surfaces within FSX and somehow have them recognized, controlled, and calibrated ONLY by FSUIPC?When I shut off the control surfaces inside FSX, they no longer respond during flight - am I missing something? Many thanks.Robert

Mine does that as well, even when using 4x - my recommendation would be to use time acceleration only when straight and level. 8x is pretty steep IMO. Developers can certainly only expected to tune the AP for 1x.
Can I disable the control surfaces within FSX and somehow have them recognized, controlled, and calibrated ONLY by FSUIPC?
That should be possible - uncheck the boxes in FSX native controls setup and assign them through FSUIPCs 'Assign Axis' tab - for example the x axis of the stick should be mapped to "axis ailerons set"Hope this helps.

Robert,Are you taking off with the MCP set to 250? If, so, set it to V2.When are you trying to set a Mach? On the ground? For what phase of flight? If it's takeoff, see above.

No one else seems to have reported this as a bug, so I'm going to go with, Yes RTFM. ;) Good luck and have fun.

This issue appears to be remediated. I hired Ghostbusters to come out to the airport and take a check ride. When the gremlins appeared, they blasted them with the flux capacitor - thus solving my issue. In addition, they checked my FSUIPC settings and put tick boxes under miscellaneous tab to prevent 'spiking' on the control surfaces (I figured it couldn't hurt). Flew from KSFO to KSEA at 8x sim speed, maintained FL360 throughout and did a quick descent and speed reduction as we approached Seattle. Missed all the mountains during the descent, landed on the numbers (CAT III auto-land) 16C at KSEA. Managed to engage the reversers, nice auto-flare - and it was pretty until I made a turnoff going a tad too fast onto the taxiway and skidded onto the grass. Missed it by THAT much! :( Of course the big concern was getting the aircraft to fly my way and also to be able to accelerate the sim rate and still maintain course and altitude. I realize that is NOT real-world flying, but sadly when I'm not on VATSIM it sometimes is necessary on a 700+ nm route when I only have 1 hour until I have to be at work, yeah? Given the top speed of the aircraft, that means I don't have enough 'real time' to complete the mission. So I have to cannonball it and go into Rod Serling Mode (Twilight Zone).
