Excellent Freeware Aircraft Alert - A Real Gem

Featured Replies

Hi MartinThe really good news is that several of the best freeware aircraft that I know of are British!!! LOLRick Piper's HS748 and Andover (His Jet Provost is older work but still pretty good)David Maltby's BAC 1-11 and Comet IVMilton Shupe's DHC-7, Beech 18 and Beech AT-11Restauriva's Fouga Magister, Mystere IV and VatourDeane Baunton's Fletcher/NZ Aerospace FU24And most astonishing of all -- an incredible contribution that equals any pawyare I know ofMirage III Swiss Air Force by "ISRA"Other than some helicopters and the DreamFleet 727 and recently, the iFly 737NG, I probably spend more time flying these freeware aircraft than most of the other payware I have sitting on my hard driveThere are many other noteworthy freeware aircraft but for me those are the ones that really stand out from the crowd, with excellent virtual cockpits, flight models, sound sets (in most cases) and systems modelling in several of them... They should keep any FSer a happy camper for hours at a timeCheersIan
Just to add that there are some nice-looking old-school British aircraft at Anglo-Virtual Aviation http://www.anglovirt...com/photo3.htmlI can vouch for their English Electric Lightning (at least as a simmer!). Sometimes you just want to go fast fast fast :( ...EDIT: ..& I'm about to DL their Phantom ;)More edit: Some dead links on that site, but the aircraft appear to be available on Simviation & possibly other hosts.

I can't solve the problem other than to tell you that I've had some similar things with strange engine sounds, including times when it won't shut down at all but keeps going "kerchunk." (I hate it when an airplane goes kerchunk!! I can handle some creaking and groaning and even some occasional hiccuping, but kerchunk is not good!) LOLThere are certainly some pecularities to the sound file or model - I'm not sure if it's a "bug" or if it really is telling us we're doing something wrong! :( Why don't you try contacting the developer? He may be more than willing to help... If you find out, I'd be interested to hearIan
I seem to have fixed the problem with the GROUND_ROLL sound reduction. Then I remembered I had the Environment sounds up to 49..( I had been sitting at Duxford listening to the planes.) I'm not getting the noise sitting now. I'm not sure why the GROUND_ROLL sound would be activated while sitting with the engines off...maybe a bug..I remembered the environment sounds being up when I started lowering the wind sound..I figured I didn't need to mess with those.I haven't heard anything from the developer, yet. He's probably a busy person. Thanks for the tip on the great aircraft, and airport!

Thanks Ian & RaindanceI'll be taking a look at those suggestions this weekend hopefully, looking forward to giving them all a try.CheersMartin
