January 22, 201214 yr Hi to all . I have been flying this bird for a couple of months and must say I love it . it is just nice plane for ftx airport with nice slow approach while scanning everything with track ir5. however I have two question which would sound little bit stupid, but I am using fs crew voice which add very nice realism and takes a bit of a loud . the question is when climbing and want to switch to just switch to lnav and ask copilot for ias to keep climbing in constant speed, however my self i couldn't find how to change IAS by my self I mean adjusting speed ? another question is when trimming for take of while I am increasing trim , the trim gauge in VC cockpit is decreasing number . could anyone . take me step by step how to correctly trim this bird . I use same trimming keystroke for any plane in fsx including pmdg 747 8 and trim always increasing on the gauge next to quadrant . Thank you very much Petr
January 22, 201214 yr i couldn't find how to change IAS by my self I mean adjusting speed For IAS, pop up the panel with shift 5.You will see a wheel, bottom left, rotate the wheel to set IAS for the climb. The J41 will adjust pitch to mainatain that airspeed. Edited January 22, 201214 yr by martin-w
January 22, 201214 yr After takeoff and 400 agl I set the A/P to IAS control using about 180, which allows the climb rate to increase as the attitude increases to control speed. Once the desire rate of climb is achieved, I switch the V/S control and hold that climb rate. Dan Downs KCRP
January 27, 201214 yr Author Hi thanks for that I did find that when app on and IAS on the vertical speed is actully IAS for climbing . Thanks for that . Smoothe flying .cheers Petr
January 27, 201214 yr After takeoff and 400 agl I set the A/P to IAS control using about 180, which allows the climb rate to increase as the attitude increases to control speed. Once the desire rate of climb is achieved, I switch the V/S control and hold that climb rate.Just a polite reminder that V/S is a very dangerous mode to use for climbing as it offers no speed protection. If, for any reason at all, you lose a few knots, the plane will pitch up to maintain climb rate, causeing you to quickly lose more speed until you are in a dangerously nose up attitude with no momentum. IAS mode is the reverse in that a loss of speed will cause a pitch down until speed is regained - which of course makes it dangerous to use in the descent phase. Paul Smith.
January 27, 201214 yr Thank you Paul, how embarassing. I haven't flown the prop in months. My advise was in error, I used to use V/S of about 800 fpm until recommended climb speed of 170 was obtained and then used IAS control to climb at 170 or 0.35M above 15000. Doh! Needless to say I'm not current and need to be careful with advice until I take a refresher checkride. Thanks again. Dan Downs KCRP
