January 22, 201214 yr I noticed something crazy when using FSX+NGX:When I do the normal power-up (Startup State Cold and dark, normal checklist, ...) I get around 25 FPS. But after 5-10 minutes, the frames are only at 20 anymore. Any idea what I could do?Thanks
January 23, 201214 yr Author O.K., I have now an idea: Have you ever experienced the above with REX Weather Engine running? I believe that is a reason.
January 23, 201214 yr If it's rex's weather engine, try to turn it off and check. If it is the cause but you want a weather engine, either get Active Sky 2012 or get Hanse-Coders FSRealWX Lite (freeware but pretty good, it also has direct wind control and wind smoothing options, plus many others. It's basically a bit reduced version of as2012 without custom textures, which you don't need because you have rex). I use the freeware and it's excellent for me, also no fps drop and very easy to use.

January 23, 201214 yr You know, some times I get some suspicious frame rate decreases when using the NGX. It's hard to quantify, but some days I swear the thing's running better than others. You should also expect a bit of a performance decrease with all the glass ready to go with IRU's aligned and everything.Sometimes a restart suffices to smooth things out. Lot's of times I close then restart FSINN if I'm flying online and things tend to smooth out. Sometime my bloody anti-virus is scanning the HD in the background ( :( )....90% of the time, I close it all and restart again. External weather programs could be the prob though as well. I understood though that the overhead on the ActiveSky products was pretty low if you were using the default FSX weather graphics. Not sure about REX's weather engine. Patrick Houghton
January 23, 201214 yr A quick notice about FSrealWX: when it apdates weather there will be a fps drop, sometimes massive, that could be a problem on approach. There is a setting ''disable weather updates on approach'', and i think also a setting for reducing this drop but i can't check because i'm in the college and i don't have the pc. I'll check it saturday.
January 23, 201214 yr It could be very simple (but it rarely is): If you start Dark and Cold and looking directly into an airport building, the graphics load is limited. When you then start up, all the instruments come to life - consuming graphics power - and later you are looking out in the airport surroundings - consuming more graphics power.Anyhow, as long as you are getting >20fps, don't bother. Fps are important, but stop having it shown on screen all the time - you will just be frustrated.RegardsCarl Michael MOBO: ASUS SABERTOOTH X58. CPU: Intel i7-960. GPU: GeForce GTX590-3072MB.
