FSX , AA + Intel Speed Step Setting + Deleting CFG File

Featured Replies

Ok, I've been reading alot of Topics here in the forum on AA and FSX. One thing I cannot stand is airports that shimmer alot. So, with that I boast up the AA to get everything looking smooth again so here is what I think works well.Nvidia Inspector:AA Mode OverrideAA Setting 8xSAA Transarency Supersampling 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling. Now, when I use these setting with UTX GEX NGX and UT2 at 60% AI, Dense AG, Dense Scenery Completexity, NO Bloom, No ENB, DX9 my frame rates around UK2000 Airports are like 15 FPS and its not that smooth.I have a 2500K OC to 5.0 GHZ (can't get it to stay there is keeps going down too 1.6ghz when its idle and I don't know why because I have turned of Intel Speed Step which makes no sense) GTX 480, 8 gig DDR3 Ram, Win 7 x64...I've also used the Automated Tweaking Tool which works great as well. I just dont think Im getting the performance I should with my rig something I think is wrong. One more question, when I delete my CFG it deletes my Key Commands, how do I make it so that my Key Commands DONT get deleted if I delete my CFG...is there some sorta files that get's deleted when I delete my CFG?If you guys could answer these three question it would be great,!Cheers

On the key assignments, I think if you back up the master standard.xml file that is in your fsx folder, and then replace the original with a copy of the version of standard.xml that is in your user settings (same place as fsx.cfg in the controls subfolder) that should retain your custom assignments. On EIST I think if you post your MB model and and BIOS ver in the hardware forum you will get a good answer quickly. (left it enabled myself so don't have direct experience).scott s..

It's HT on or off that controls 4 or 8 cores being used, and it will go down to 1.6 when it's not loaded: they all do - by design. The faster - the hotter. If you want to keep the control file - then back it up - just copy it to 'standard - copy.xml' or somthing. I use 8 fsx.cfg's and eight xml files, all named for their perculiarity, plus a backup of each...and go here for some insight into the Inspector settings:-http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/

Please consider using FSUIPC4 to assign and calibrate all your axis. Refer to John Cook's FSUIPC Guide for setup instructions. You will also get many other benefits, like automatic switching of assigned axis/buttons/switches/keys as you switch aircraft, control spike elimination, and lots of other goodies. You can get FSUIPC4 here and then go here to get the latest update.Cheers,- jahman.

THyanks for this : http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/ I have read all of it and it seems in order to get things to look good I have to take FPS drop that seems too big for the system I have. Thanks for tips, if any of you guys have an AA setting youy'd like to show me?

fakeflyer737,

AA Transarency Supersampling 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling.
This will cut your fps in half. Try 4x Supersampling Transarency AA instead. Or upgrade to a better GPU. Good luck!

Hi Ron,4x Sparse Grid Supersampling is a fps killer, and even worse in clouds, try AA 8xs & 2X grid and see if that helps.

Yes, it is quite annoying. I mipmapped my UT2 aircraft which make them clear as mud. Would you like me to PM you my fsx.cfg and see if there is something in mine that may help. I don't get shimmering at all, so might be worth a shot. Just let me know.

That would be nice of you thanks. I just find the UK200 shimmer the worst, some of the Aerosoft stuff does too like Nice and a few others, but I cannot stand this shimmering and it so bad that if I use AA thats high it gets rid of it but then my FPS are so bad that I cannot fly my favourite planes to my favourite Airports and I have a great computer too!I wihs there was a GPU that I could buy that could AA A LOT more than the current 480 I have, I've been told that the 480/580 is pretty much the best you can have for FSX, maybe a GTX 590 with 3 gigs of RAM or something, Im just at my wits end and I dont have fun with this game when is shimmers like this, It makes me want to uninstall it for good.

Yes Ron, it ruins the whole sim. Looks like fs95. I am using the NVidia driver 275.33, and it is the best I have tried, amd trust me, I have tried the lot. Anyway, check your PM's in a minute or so.Also, might post a screen of my driver settings. There is a batch file in the UT2 forum that will automate the mip mapping of the UT2 aircraft, if that helps. I am using a 580 1.5GB. As I do not use multiple screens, 1.5 is the max I would go due to increasing the chances of the dreaded OOM'S.

Julian thank you so much for your help, I will try all this out.The reason why I use the latest drivers is because I play a lot of BF3 and it requires the lastest to even play online.
