Seems like a good alternative instead of spending it on a 120 GB SSD which will run out of space.Seem similar in idea to the seagate hybrid ssd/hd but its more of a software implementation (it only works in Windows 7). Would this work well with FSX? Edited January 24, 201214 yr by OmniAtlas Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering

You're running an SSD with your system :) Guru3d has a good review -- http://www.guru3d.com/article/ocz-synapse-cache-ssd-review/1 Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
January 24, 201214 yr SSD itself or the Synapse technology? You're running an SSD with your system :)IK, I regret it. Ask Word Not Allowed, he'll tell you why he doesn't have an SSD yet. ;)Synapse and SSD technology. Anything regarding an SSD is what I meant.
January 24, 201214 yr OmniAtlasThis could be OCZ's version of Intel's Smart Response Technololgy - they seem very similar.Mobo's are even appearing with mSata slots so you don't use a "full size" sata one.pH
January 24, 201214 yr If I look at this from technology standpoint, great - we need development. But if I look at this from the practical side - why anything else than SSD. What use is a hybrid - when data that is not cached yet (let's say FSX at load), then a drive has to read from the slower HDD. It is a great tech to make normal HDDs faster. But that's it - I wouldn't call it an SSD.In the end, can't beat the real and normal SSD.Why I don't have SSD? Quite simple: performance vs price ratio is still not in level.
January 24, 201214 yr Author Ssd would be the best but you're still limited by hd space. Yes this is similar to intels solution but it works with any motherboardHere is a comparison running the game crysis after the 3rd run through. It's pretty comparable to the Ssd.http://www.guru3d.com/article/ocz-synapse-cache-ssd-review/7 Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
January 24, 201214 yr Maybe I expressed myself poorly - performance vs ratio also implies storage space. Performance of SSD is undoubtable.
January 24, 201214 yr I bought 2x OCZ Vertex 3 60gb SSD drives before xmas, I thought 60gig would be fine for me as I planned to install only the scenery/aircraft that I actually flew rather than trying to build a complete world that i never visited. As I began to reinstall ORBX, airports etc the space quickly began to run out. At 50gig full and with more scenery to reinstall (due to the ORBX sales!) I decided to reinstall the 500gb SATA 2 7200 drive I removed. I ghosted FSX and copied it on to the 500gb drive. Load times were about twice as long but when the flight started there was absolutely no difference on anything during the flight that could justify, to me, an upgrade to a 120gb SSD at the current prices.I feel quite relieved at the amount of space I have currently have free and even though I have to contend with occasional visits to O and O Defrag City I am happy with OS on SSD and FSX on a 7200 SATA2.One of SSD drives is back in the box in my drawer gathering dust! Won't bother with SSD for FSX until prices are around £60 for 120gb which may be sometime yet! Edited January 24, 201214 yr by graham3278
January 24, 201214 yr Author I'm really p**ed that US customers get all these great deals -- amazon.com is offering ocz synapse for $139, if you ordered a couple days ago you could have gotten the rebate for another $20. Australia is very expensive. I'm back here in Malaysia (for CNY) -- this is where intel chips, sony tvs, and western digital HD are made, and I'm still getting a quote for around 555 RM, or 173 AUD. Sigh. I'm edging more towards this as a purchase within the next few weeks, and when I do get it I'll make a video review for you guys with it running FSX. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
January 24, 201214 yr Performance of SSD is undoubtable.Yep. But when you use it a good bit for 2 years, the speed degrades to the point of a regular HDD. I have one and I am not very happy.

January 25, 201214 yr Do you have TRIM enabled? How do I enable that? I have windows 7 64bit. AFAIK, win7 automatically enables this feature.
January 25, 201214 yr How do I enable that? I have windows 7 64bit. AFAIK, win7 automatically enables this feature.Open a cmd prompt and typefsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify If the result is 0, trim is enabled. DisableDeleteNotify = 0 How full is the drive? Is AHCI enabled in the SATA controller where the SSD is connected? Is it connected to an Intel SATA port?Is the partition alligned?
