MD-11 Wing

Featured Replies

on the wing the things under the wing that control the flaps are different on some aircraft. PMDG simulates the ones the do not come out from under the wing but there are some that do why is this?

watch at 0:49 under the wing only some MD-11s have this.

Flys Cessna 172P, C206 Turbo G1000, DA-40XLS G1000, M20J, Archer III/11, Piper Cub, Beech Travelair, C177

Disregard the earlier post. I see it now. He's looking at the flap canoes. Looking at the KLM bird, the trailing edge of the canoe sticks out past the trailing edge of the wing. Whichever version PMDG modeled, doesn't.

There are two different itterations of these. As a part of the PIP for the MD-11 (introduced mid run) this was an option to decrease fuel consumption.

I also just read that another change from the PIP was to have the windscreen wipers stowed vertically instead of horizontally. The Fed Ex Md-11 I am flying at the moment has the original flap canoes but vertical windscreen wipers! So is the PIP modelled here or not PMDG? Ha ha.

Vertically stowed wipers was part of all aircraft which were retrofitted with the PIP along with the FMS reprogramming. If you go through the options on the CDU you will find that you can actually revert the FMS to the pre PIP programming! The wing canoes were an "option" for late delivery units. The primary customers who had these added were KLM and Swiss.
