January 30, 201214 yr I'm really getting annoyed with FSX. I just overclocked my computer to 4ghz, and am happy with a few framerate increases and much smoother flying. But my only comlaint is the frames are still not high when on the ground at addon airports and of course the highly detailed PNW.Any tips for adding frames besides lowering my sliders?

What are you're system specs? What anti-aliasing settings are you running (?Inspector?) ? What aircraft? January 31, 201214 yr You might like to head over to www.pcmichiana.com and take a look. Take a look at Windows 7 videos - How to turn off CPU Core Parking. Might be of interest to you?
February 2, 201214 yr Core parking , does that mean that i will not use all of my cores in FSX, better still what does that mean.:)my system is 2600k.Gigabye MB.6 gig ram.285 gtx1.5 tera hdCan FSX utilizes all the cores or are you saying that i need to shut down some cores because FSX does not use them therefore dont waste the energy and one,s and zeroes.Thanks.Robert
February 2, 201214 yr I had the same and experienced a lot but finely I found the right setting.I have aff=14 also incl 4096 .What I added is the combination of[bufferpools]usepools =0plus the water in fsx on 2xhighespecialy this last one solved the problem of flashes and small spikes. paula
February 2, 201214 yr Hi Robert, I tried to post the following this morning, but for some reason has not showed up. I trust it will not duplicate. Firstly, I am no expert, but the following works for me. O.K. a little background. When FSX first came out it was unable to take advantage of Multi Corp Processors, this is when FSX Service Pack 1 came out which allowed FSX to work on MCP's. The i7 CPU's arrived; I have Four CPU Cores, and Eight Virtual cores. As I understand it, FSX with SP1 can only work on Four Cores; it was not designed for Virtual Cores. Now, Microsoft in their wisdom designed Windows 7 to 'park' some of if not all these Virtual Cores. Why?, well if you use a laptop then the usage of power is important; don't want batteries running low too quickly; so by having Virtual Cores parked less power is used. In most circumstances, i.e. writing letters, internet use etc etc, this is fine, but when it comes to a hungry beast like FSX, you want maximum power/cores available. I believe I am correct in saying that when you fly level and straight forward, only four cores will be in use, but when you start to make a turn, and the CPU has to work harder to introduce for scenery, some of these cores will in fact be come 'unparked', but this will only be for a short period, and then return to a 'parked' status. So, it makes sense to 'unpark' these parked cores, and let FSX use all of each core all of the time as Service Pack One intended. As an example:- I use Nvidia Inspector (latest build) and latest Nvidia Driver for a 480GTX, I believe 285.62. (there is a later one 290.xx, but that is presently Beta only) FSX Frames set to unlimited, and with N. Inspector, have Frames limited to 60 (recommends 30, but I use a tripleheadtogo unit, and this seems to give me the best results). Today flew from Bristol to Edinburgh. heavy cloud, rain, mist, you name it (REX by the way); got 60 fps at Bristol, and spiking up to 120 fps on route (Sim is nice and smooth though)Now, I don't normally ask people to head over to another forum, but suggest you head over to the REX forum, and look for a subject 'FSX & Compatibility with Core i7. This will you all you need I think. You will find there a small program that will set your cores every time you want to run FSX, and suggest you give that a go first off. I have never use the Affinity Mask tweak in ones FSX.cfg file, and don't think you will need it if you try this tweak as mentioned above.Let me know how you get on.
