NGX & GSX Fueling

Featured Replies

The GSX team has announced that it will look into option to disable the pop-up fuel menu for PMDG. I would think that will affect the fuel truck show time as well. Definetely there will be some polishing of this great product in the near future so stay tuned...

So before FSDreamteam releases an update, I just wanted to post the results of my quick test for fueling with the NGX using GSX.As Zach mentioned, there are no Ill effects to using GSX to TRY and fuel the NGX. I found that if you try to add fuel through GSX by using the default FSX fueling window, that absolutely no fuel will be changed after the Fuel Truck leaves. I guess the CDU's fuel entries overide any FSX fuel changes. So, if you want to have the entire animation of the fuel truck,. you can just continue fueling and then after it leaves, just enter the fuel again in the CDU.Thanks Dave and Zach.JB

I suspect GSX actually recognises that it's dealing with the NGX and thus won't fill the tanks, so as to avoid users accidentally loading fuel in a way that affects the W&B.It's a good program so far, by the way. A few little bits of polish are required (and I am confident they will do so) but I have to say I'm very impressed!

Is it GSX thats ignoring the fuel entries in the FSX Fueling window, or is it the NGX?My earlier tests (although only tested through GSX) showed that the default FSX fuel window, when opened by GSX, will not make any changes to the fuel load when viewed through the CDU or the default FSX load manager. But when I change the fuel via the CDU, then view the FSX load manager, the fuel changes are applied.I am gonna be away from the comp for a while, maybe someone else can just try loading fuel in the NGX with the default fuel window from FSX and see if it changes the fuel load after it's closed.JB

I'm mid flight right now, so I don't want to mess with the fuel load using the FSX interface sorry. As a matter of interest, the fuel quantities on the NGX gauges do reflect the FSX native fuel percentage readout (shift-Z).I was showing 18% fuel and 3.7 tonnes on the gauges in the -600 a moment ago. Total fuel tank capacity in the -600 is around 26,000 litres. multiply by .8 to get the weight of 20.8 tonnes. 18% of 20.8 = 3.744 tonnes.Regardless of whether GSX or the NGX is ignoring the fuel entries, the key thing is NOT to load fuel into the NGX in any way besides through the CDU. Results may be unrealisitc in terms of W&B.

No I know. And up until GSX I never even thought of using the fsx load manager to fuel the NGX.My involvement in this thread is purely exploratory.Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkJB

Is this not maybe more a case of a weight and balance issue with why fuel loading is done through the cdu and not fsx? Perhaps pmdg do some other modifications to the cfg of the aircraft other than it just specifying how much juice is on board, in order to get an accurate flight model? We could do with someone from the team to expand upon this to clarify the effects of doing so. For now think easiest option is to select cancel and load fuel in cdu.I've yet to test gsx, but will do later, I do have aes installed how does it perform with both installed? It seems aes is trying to play catch up as the latest version as animated catering truck loaders to now.

I don't have AES, just GSX. So I can't really say how they both work together. Either of the products aren't really my type of addon. I never found myself looking too closely at the scenery, or even the external views, too busy staring at the panel in simulated weather. But there is one really cool aspect of GSX that has improved my sim experience. When I do fly the NGX, I do so on vatsim and for a Southwest VA. I try to do two short legs and start the first at the scheduled departure time. GSX has actually given me the ability to race against the clock to get a short turn to get back in the air for the next leg. It's fun to try and match a typical short 10-15 minute Southwest turnaround while waiting on the GSX services to complete. Then taking off a bit late and asking the controllers if they can give me shortcuts so I can try to keep the aircraft on schedule. The above is the main reason why I was hoping for a workaround to keep the fuel truck next to the plane thus blocking the loading process. The fueling usually takes a longtime, usually longer than any of the services. But since the GSX fuel truck leaves right after you cancel the load screen, I'm not getting a good representation of how long it should take to do the turn.
