February 19, 201214 yr And with a SSD cache on the VRAP FSX would load in 10 sec.!Sorry, but that's wrong! It did not and it would not. Please reread my post - I had a Corsair SSD on which I put my copy of the FSX and ran tests for couple of days. Loading times were nearly the same, FPS was the same, and only noticable performance inside FSX was changing views was a bit snappier, but even when that gets cached, no difference.I would agree to getting SSD if FSX was really loading in 10seconds, but your statement is just pure wrong.I have to be fair also, telling that, after the windows boot, if I start FSX, it needs some 2.5 minutes to start.
February 19, 201214 yr I am concerned about the SSD for OS. I would like to install Win 7 on a regular HD (primary C:) and FSX on an SSD.Would I have any issues if I decide to use SSD for C: drive later? I mean, I could backup the entire C: Drive using Acronis image copy and then remove the HD, swap in an SSD and then use the Acronis to reinstall the C: image copy over to the SSD.Am I asking for trouble or is this doable? Or should I just go for a an SSD for C: drive as well right from the start?Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 20, 201214 yr I am in the middle of some serious testing of the SSD vs HDD. Just a quick input of my observations so far using a 5400rpm 80GB notebook drive. The numbers are just rough numers. If you start FSX after a fresh boot of windows the first load of FSX is really slow. But superfetch really does wonders with load times. Launching FSX before superfetch has kicked in takes a long time (roughly a minute) and loading a flight takes long (also roughly a minute). As many already said, subsequent launches of FSX and loading of flights are a lot faster as loads of files are already cached in the RAM now. We are talking under 6s for launch and around half a minute for flight load). Looking in the performance monitor I can see when superfetch kicks in after a fresh windows boot. It starts roughly 5min after boot has finished and in my case it takes around 4min. When Superfetch has cached everything the first FSX launch takes around 10s and the first flight load is only a second or so longer than what subsequent loads take.(I will post a full more detailed report once I'm finished)
