Stock Airport Prague LKPR

Featured Replies

On my system, I have installed Prague scenery Project LKPR X - ver 080605, Scenery of Praha Ruzyne Airport for FS2004/FSX by Pavel Benes, Filip Dvorak and Karel Kriz. The stock airport for Prague is incorporated in the file AP951140.bgl in my path ....\FS2004\Scenery\Eurw. When I view this in Afcad2.21 by Lee Swordy I notice that there are two obsolete runways visible which affect the above scenery as I believe the stock airport was not properly excluded by the authors.. I want to remove these objects. When I highlite and delete them and subsequently attempt to save the modification of the stock airport, Afcad prompts me to save the file as AF2_LKPR.bgl and not AP951140.bgl. Is this correct? If I accept the modified file as AF2_LKPR.bgl, does this get saved to the addon scenery folder and have a higher priority and supercede AP951140? Will it affect the Project LKPR X - ver 080605 scenery?ThanksDom

Never, ever overwrite one of the default airport files. There are generally more airports than just the one you are working on sitting inside that AP9xxxxx.bgl file. Save your work into a new file, make sure it's sitting some place like Addon Sceneryscenery and it should replace the default. Since you are trying to also work with another airport?? Sorry, it's been a long time since I worked in FS9, so hopefully someone else can assist there. But you don't want to overwrite a default file.

Thanks for the reply. I have not altered the APxxxxxx.bgl, only saved the modified AF2_LKPR.bgl file generated by Afcad. I placed this file in the addon\addon scenery folder, but the priority of the modified file is lower than the APxxxxxx.bgl stock file, and therefore the stock file is still showing thru with the obsolete runways.I need to get the modified bgl file to have a higher priority than the stock file. Any suggestions will be appreciated.ThanksDom

The only way that Addon Scenery\scenery can have lower priority than the default files is if you moved Addon Scenery\scenery below the default files (....\FS2004\Scenery\Eurw in this case) in the Scenery Library, this is something you should not do.A more likely explanation is that your addon for LKPR...1) has higher priority in the Scenery Library than Addon Scenery...and...2) contains an Afcad-type file that contains the runways that you are trying to remove.Moving your LKPR addon below Addon Scenery in the Scenery Library will force FS to use your Afcad, removing the runways. This means that any other changes in the LKPR addon Afcad will also be ignored, you may not want this.Without having the LKPR addon installed on my PC I can only guess, but suspect the best way to accomplish what you want is to edit the LKPR addon Afcad to remove the runways.Afcad 2.21 is the wrong tool for this as the LKPR addon Afcad may contain info that Afcad 2.21 does not know how to process. The best tool would be ADE9X which is freeware and available here- http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/regards,Joe

Thanks for your reply which was most helpful. I would like to review the steps i am taking to resolve my dilemma. As per your suggestion, I utilized ADE to call the AP951140.bgl and selected the Czech LKPR airport.Once loaded, I proceeded to DELETE the two old offending runways and then recompiled the file and saved it back as AP951140.bgl in the sceneryeurw folder (I previously made a backup copy of the original file in the event I made an error). So now I see the Prague scenery Project LKPR X - ver 080605 scenery displayed in FSNavigator on top of the stock airport in AP951140.bgl displaying properly. However, I suspect that I have lost all other airports which may have been incorporated within AP951140.bgl.If so, how do I get those airports back and still have the LKPR modified airport? I guess I "want my cake and eat it too". I read thru the ADE tutorials but did not see this topic covered.Any other help you or others can offer will be appreciated.ThanksDom

You do not want to edit the default file, and yes you have lost all other airports in the default AP951140.bgl by folowing that process.Reinstate the original AP951140.bgl.In the addon for LKPR is there an Afcad? If so you want to edit that file with ADE9X with "Open Airport from BGL".Remove the 2 runways.Save the airport in case you need to make further changes.Compile the airport to the same location as the addon Afcad, I suggest you use the default naming scheme.Make sure you move the original addon Afcad out of the active scenery folder.Test.regards,Joe

The runways which are showing thru and which I am seeking to delete reside in the AP951140.bgl file, not in the Project LKPR X - ver 080605 scenery. Are you suggesting that the AP951140.bgl file cannot be edited to delete out those two obsolete runways without destroying all other airports within AP951140.bgl?Thanks for staying with me on this topicDom

It is generally accepted that editing the default files is a bad idea. The tools available to us, ADE9X being one of the best, allow us to modify our FS world without the need to edit the original files.Did you try the procedure I suggested?regards,Joe

I did but it did not resolve the problem. As I tried to explain, the afcad in the freeware scenery Project LKPR X - ver 080605 has the correct runways and do not include the two obsolete runways to which I refer. The two obsolete runways resided in the default stock airport in AP951140. It is these two runways which I want to remove so that they do not appear when viewed in FSNavigator. If this not possible, then I will have to accept this and move on. Perhaps I can figure out how to put an exclude in the Project LKPR X - ver 080605 to block out those adjacent areas.Any and all suggestions are appreciated.Dom

I thought this was a scenery diplay issue.I now understand it is a problem with FSNav (something you did not explain in your initial posts).I do not have FSNav, nor do I understand how it works.Maybe someone else can help you.regards,Joe

Are you running the database "DBC" update exe in the FSNav bin folder? This might solve your problem.(null)

Yes I have, thanks. If you look at the image from FSNav. you will see the freeware scenery afcad of Project LKPR X - ver 080605 sitting atop AP951140.bgl which contains LKPR and the two runways I wish to delete. Can this be done?ThanksDom

Hi Dom - I installed the freeware scenery you mention (great scenery, btw, thanks for the tip), and I'm also seeing the closed runways in FSNav, although not in the sim, even after running the DBC update program. You might want to post this in the scenery design forum, as it appears that these runways weren't completely excluded by the freeware developers of this airport.

I was successful in decompiling AP951140.bgl, removing the offending runways and recompiling AP951140.bgl.Here are the results, the top half of the following pics are the original AP951140.bgl and the default airport.the bottom half are my modified AP951140.bgl and the default airport. As you can see the closed concrete runways are gone, so far so good...Now to the bad. As I began my takeoff role the runway "rolled up" in front of me......and then I noticed the taxisigns were missing...So you can see that the default files can be edited, but not always with the results we want.If this cannot be fixed within FSNav then it might be best to live with it.regards,Joe
