February 9, 201214 yr Good afternoon everyone there,Could you please help me with one doubt? When aircraft is in Cold & Dark predefined state, position lights switch is in steady position (I don't know if this is a bug). When external power is requested, switch from overhead panel still not connected and only ground power available is illuminated, the nav lights are on.I thought that although the switch is in steady position the nav lights will not illuminate until the ground power or battery is connected from the cabin.Am I right or not? Could someone please explain the real performance of nav lights? Thanks for your help.Xiropillo Iñigo Bayo
February 9, 201214 yr Commercial Member I can get the nav lights to illuminate even when nothing is connected and all power is off.Best regards,Robin.
February 9, 201214 yr Author How do you do that? And that should not be possible.ThanksXiropillo Iñigo Bayo
February 9, 201214 yr Ok, it is normal, PMDG simulates that ground service power is applied when the ground cart is connected. There is a switch in the attendant panel (not simulated) that connects the ground service bus for ground handling purpose. The position lights, if switched on, will illuminate. The confirmation is from the internal cabin lights that are on when the ground cart is connected. February 9, 201214 yr Commercial Member Andrea's already confirmed that it operates correctly, but also keep in mind (and don't let yourself get confused) that even if you have the ground power selected, the AVAIL light will stay on. This is contrary to the selected power source with the APU and GENs. When those are AVAIL but not ON, they show lit until selected. The ground power on the other hand, stay lit at all times. That may have confused you. Kyle Rodgers
February 9, 201214 yr Author OK, so I understand that when requesting ground power electricity is already available as if the switch from the cabin had been powered on but service is only available for some lights but not for the cockpit? When pilots arrive to the cockpit they will switch avail ground power on to get electricity in the whole aircraft?I am confused because as ramp agent I use to get into the cabin and switch power on but not from the cockpit and position lights are not illuminated even if the switch is in on position. I don't know if 737 300 or 500 are different from NG because I only know about them. Thanks for your help and best regards.Xiropillo Iñigo Bayo
February 10, 201214 yr Different aircraft, different power. On the classics, the position lights are powered by the battery bus or the 28VDC XFER BUS1 (depending on configurations, some have "ON BATT" position. This means that the external power does nothing on it.As a ramp agent you use the GND SERVICE switch located in the fwd attendant panel wich powers cabin lights, fuel indication system, battery charger, and few other things.
