February 12, 201214 yr This might be a funny thing to ask, but on the serious side: what are you guys using as a chair for your simming setup?Right now, I never used pedals or a yoke. Now, with this hardware incoming, I can hardly keep my office chair for a normal use of flight simulator. It has wheels and it easily moves around, so not an idea thing for rudder pedals. The best thing would be if I could fixate it just for simming, but that isn't possible.I would like to know what are you using? Note that it's only an interesting thing if you are using the whole setup, otherwise any office chair is just as good.
February 13, 201214 yr Right now, I never used pedals or a yoke. And you're the hardware mod? :LMAO:I sim on an office chair with castoring wheels and I don't seem to have a problem with rudder pedals, but then again I'm careful about pushing too hard against the pedals.A common solution is to place the chair above a square of plywood with a piece of wood nailed along the back edge so your chair won't roll back when pushing against the pedals.Cheers,- jahman. February 13, 201214 yr Commercial Member I got me a nice big leather office chair. It's designed for individuals twice my size but that makes it more comfortable. Noah Bryant
February 13, 201214 yr Pop the wheels off, glue some carpet pieces to where the wheels were, raise the seat a bit!
February 13, 201214 yr And you're the hardware mod? :LMAO: :LMAO:Word Not Allowed,I've got a regular desk chair with wheels. BUT, I am on carpet so I don't move very easily.I also removed the arms from the chair due to them always bumping my desk. Edited February 13, 201214 yr by benorg
February 13, 201214 yr And you're the hardware mod? :LMAO:Hey hey hey, easy!! I expressed poorly: I used to have CH pedals, but I also had carpet back then, and my chair didn't roll that easily. I had a Saitek Yoke, but sent it back. I couldn't afford PFC until now. And my CH died also. So, yes, I did have it in the past, but right now, I just got the pedals and my PFC yoke is on the way.
February 13, 201214 yr I've got a regular desk chair with wheels. BUT, I am on carpet so I don't move very easily.Exactly. I had that. But now on the wooden floor without any carpet - and I like it so.Also the problem is that my seating place is way too deep, so I can't really seem to sit upright but only little slided in, causing troubles with pedals.I think the best solution would be not as deep office chair, but with a high backrest. And without wheels, but rather only pins with some smooth cloth on them to prevent scratching the floor.
February 13, 201214 yr Just mind the static all of you with carpets under your chairs.Me, I put an "L" shaped piece of aluminum along the front edge of my simdesk that's connected to ground after I fried my GoFlighty MCP Pro with a 1/2 inch spark out of my index finger. That way whenever I rest my forearms on the esge of the desk I'm automatically back to ground potential.Cheers,- jahman. Edited February 13, 201214 yr by jahman
February 13, 201214 yr I have a high-back leather office chair on medium-pile carpet. The PFC yoke/rudders are bolted to a 14" x 30" piece of 1/8' plywood, which has wood screws protruding 1/2" through the bottom serving as spikes into the carpet.Last time I had to operate on a wood floor, I had some plastic sliders with neoprene pads on the bottom that the wheels to the chair sat in, and the PFC gear was attached to a small piece of short-pile carpet with velcro. I used rubber carpet pads under that to keep the yoke/rudders from moving.@jahman--I use a central humidifier on my furnace to keep the relative humidity at 20-30%. No worries with static if the humidity is kept regulated. February 13, 201214 yr I use a central humidifier on my furnace to keep the relative humidity at 20-30%. No worries with static if the humidity is kept regulated.I'm with you, except humidity never gets as low as you mention you get with your humidifier on, and I don't even have a rug close to my simpit, but there was that spark. The MCPPro went back and forth several times with GoFlight and they couldn't fix it, so they graciosuly provided me with a completely new unit at no cost, even thought the unit was out of warranty. So I devised this very simple way of grounding myself while simming. Really cheap, really, conveneint, really smart. With so much electronics around you, there really isn't a reason not to ground yourself.Cheers,- jahman.

Got another one and sure enough a few nights ago, 10 hours into a 12 hour flight I touched it and da-dunk, flight over. This one is still working fine though.I am now grounding a wire directly to a screw on my desk as the GF units have to be the most poorly grounded devices I have EVER used!!! I thought it was just me though! Edited February 13, 201214 yr by psolk Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
February 13, 201214 yr Word Not Allowed, A well positioned rubber doorstop working as chocks under the chair wheels works wonders :) Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
February 13, 201214 yr I'd love to see some pictures of your setup!Nothing fancy, just a 2 foot piece of L-shaped aluminum on the edge of my simDesk, centered under the yoke, and held in place by the yoke.Cheers,- jahman.
