atc.dll ctd in fsx

Featured Replies

Could either one of these changes have anything to do with the crashes? Thanks.
Unlikely.Try dropping your CPU multiplier to 42 (4.2Ghz) with all other settings (i.e. voltage) remaining the same and running like that for a while. If the errors stop, it's almost certainly an unstable (in FSX) overclock.

BobThanks for the Heads Up - I agree with your comments and I was aware that it was possible to "tweak" the RAM, my argument is that with SB the returns in performance are minimal bue to that fixed FSB and if you get the settings wrong then a mismatch may occur and using the default/auto settings is the first step in seeing what is causing a xc000005 error. No more than that. If the default settings did not fix the problem then the next step would be to look at other issues that may.BTW I have never seen increased performance figures in a SB rig due to increasing the RAM settings. For instance, flying a complex add-on tube liner in complex photoscenery does it increase fps/smoothness by at least 5% (constant) which would start to make me think that it was a significant increase statistically.RegardsPeterH

I will say this, setting the ram settings to auto worked, at least on a flight (KSLC to KIAH) that I've attempted 6 times and had 6 straight crashes. This time it worked. But I think I'm only have happy, because if I'm having my ram run slower to do that, I wonder why. Flaw in the MB? Why should it work with default settings and not the real settings?Realize I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm curious.Dan

DanYour RAM speed is not running slower it is running at speed dictated by the FSB on your SB rig. RAM speed on a SB rig is not so important as it was on say the i7 9xx series where you did overclock the FSB. IMO 1333 RAM performs just as well as 2000 RAM on a SB rig. Effectively RAM speed is set as a multiple of the FSB, it can be set independently but in practice it is tied to the FSB rate, so if the FSB stays the same increasing the RAM speed will do very little.Sure you can use faster RAM (I use 1600) but it will have very little impact on frame rates or running FSX smootherI think that Col Bob has given some guidelines on how overclock the RAM above, if you wish to go down that path, but you have just experienced the effects of a mismatch.Sometimes I don't understand why simmers get so hung up on RAM as it is usually the OS and cpu that dicate what happens in terms of performance ie as long as you have a balanced system ie OS - CPU - RAM - GPU - PSU - Mobo - Cooling - Monitor - Case, etc :Hypnotized:I'm glad if you have fixed the error - my advice - if it ain't broke - don't fix it. :Peace:RegardsPeter

I have clocked and unclocked RAM and could didn't see any real difference . Reliability is far more important to me. I suppose there are factors that can benefit from OCing ram.Peter's got it right.
