February 17, 201214 yr Was performing a flight from Athens to Paris.....chose my cargo, and loaded the figures with TOPCAT...76ton of freight and 36ton of Fuel....I was in a hurry as it was getting late at night...did my preflight, pushed back and guided by Athens approach, took off.I had planned F380 but was too heavy so broke up the altidue in 360/380 steps...Found some very heavy headwinds and noticed that my right engine was consuming fuel faster than the left but the automatic fuel management was looking after it...although a few minutes into the cruise I had a closer look and noticed the tail tank was full...the system had filled it to capacity and my elevator trim was 0.7!This configuration continued and I kept an eye on it, especially as the fuel temperature was getting colder and colder and I was cursing myself for not choosing Jet Fuel A1 instead of Jetfuel A as it has a lower freezing temp.....fuel temp got to -39c!!Just before top of descent, I noticed the fuel system started to transfer fuel from the tail tank to the other 3 tanks as I was down to 5ton of fuel in each tank....I wondered how this would affect elevator trim since it was already 0.5! We started descent at the calculated point and I raced off to get myself a glass of water before performing my descent checklist....When I got back (literally 2 minutes later) I could hear a warning "stal/overspeed/stall/overspeed"....and all I could see on the screen was flashes of green and blue with a lot of white vapour in between!!! A quick glance showed me the autopilot had disengaged, and the aircraft was tumbling on its pitch axis backwards....ie the tail must have dropped and continued until the aircraft went over the vertical and now it was doing the same again and again out of control. It was clear elevators were of no use as there was no airfolw on them, so I firewalled the throttles and applied full left aileron, nothing....I moved engine 1 to idle and engines 2 and 3 to full power trying to upset the pitch motion and get some control....nothing....lowered the landing gear....the pitch motion started to slow a bit....and then virtual mother earth met me with a catastrohic bang!Anyone flying in the vicinity of Southern Paris 12 hours ago would have seen quite a spectacle!!!I had a look at Topcat and how it loaded the weights...the TOW limit was outside its safety margins but Landing was not....I am wondering what went wrong....any ideas???Might re-do my flight tonight.....so if you see me flying in about 12 hours time...stay clear....LOL Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
February 17, 201214 yr I love reading stories like this! LOL, not that it is a poke at you....but that it reminds me that I am not the only one with a "issue" sometimes. This is weird, I wish you knew what your tail tank was showing at the stall....wonder if for some reason the transfer got messed up? I was flying my FedEx md11 with mchpat textures which I recommend everybody to buy. I was on approach to JFK after the fastest 700NM flight I have ever flown and I was 50 feet above the runway and there was a glitch and the plane slammed into the runway. It was the weirdest thing. I had flown the flight in 1h 30 min with 120kt tailwind. February 18, 201214 yr 50 feet above the runway and there was a glitch and the plane slammed into the runway. That might have something to do with water, runways and scenery and nonthing to do with the aircraft you are flying. This problem has been mentioned here over the years. Dan Downs KCRP
February 18, 201214 yr KJFK, the addon I have, uses invisible objects....It took me 4 long hauls to crash at 50 feet to figure that out. William Sequeira
