Traffic Files causing FS9 to crash

Featured Replies

Just recently bought a new computer and slowly reinstalled all my FS9 products. Last night everything was working fine, so this morning I began to add AI traffic. After adding a few, i booted up FS9 see how busy EGCC was looking, but after loading my flight to 100% the screen went black for 20 seconds then the message "FS9 has stopped working" came up time after time. So i retraced my steps deleting all of my new traffic.bgl's. Then rebooted FS9, and it was working! So I put 2 of my traffic bgls back, and it worked perfectly, but when I added more the same thing happened, black screen, then "FS9 has stopped working".Anybody know whats going on? Please help me! :(CheersRob

I wouldn't rush to condemn the traffic files, I would think it more likely to be a faulty aircraft. Also, please check what DLL has caused your crashes. See my web site (in the footer) if you are not sure how to do that.John

Unfortunately I dont have to option of seeing an error report, It just comes up FS9 has stopped working, then flicks to FS9 is restarting. I'm running Windows 7.I have also tried to re download all the base packages and try it all again, as soon as I got passed Flybe, BMI and easyJet, it does the same thing again. No error report, except Flight Simulator has stopped working and needs to close.

. . . and if you skip Easy Jet?You could have a bad paint or mdl file. Also, do your spotting with a default aircraft just in case. Finally try at another airport out of that region to avoid any coincidences.Normally AI aircraft do not have gauges but if any do that could be another source if a gauge is not 64 bit compatible. Since FS9 is a 32 bit app and should be loading all models in a 32 bit environment it owns, that should not be a factor but Win 7 could be.

remove the aircraft folders one by one and see if you can visit the same airport at the same time without a crash. If you find a culprit aircraft, then remove the texture folders one at a time.

I think im sorted now, it was easyJet that was the problem, I was trying to use my Wilco model as AI 'cause it worked on my old system, apparently not on this one! :D

I have just finished dealing with exactly the same issue - and have in the past too. It seems that for some unpredictable reason, an occasional traffic file gets corrupted. On Sunday I made a flight from KBUF to KJFK - no problem. But after I tried to start another flight from KJFK I kept getting a CTD exactly as described above. When I disabled AI traffic, the problem went away. I finally narrowed it down to one particular AI file that I've had for a couple of years... (A tedious task as I have hundreds of AI files) Deleted it and now everything is fine again.Weird... :(

Sim1.dll is indeed linked with AI aircraft. Only one I had personally was tracked down to a non-true AI aircraft being used as such and distributed in an "AI" package. It doesn't get you much further than what is already mentioned but it may save you going off at a tangent.Follow pschlute's guidance. It will be a tedious process but I don't think anybody can do it for you.JohnPS - kiwiflyer posted while I was typing. I'm pretty certain it isn't the traffic file, it is the aircraft generated by it. Remember you can visit a place at a different time of day, or different day of the week and the problem won't happen because the offending aircraft isn't there.

Hi JohnAs always, I readily defer to your knowledge about the inner workings of FS as I know you really know your stuff when it comes to this kind of thing. I'm sure that in 99% of the cases, you're right. But in this one it's hard to make the connection. The file I ended up removing was a military AI file involving a stalward AI aircraft - the HTAI C130 - and one I've had for probably a year or more.. And the CTD was taking place selecting KJFK - with no military destination that I know of in the area... I can't remember the details of the last time I had something like this but it was similar as I recall. I'm sticking with my theory - that somehow the file got corrupted. Or maybe it was an evil FSX spirit, trying to drive me away from the one, true path of flight simming! LOLCheers mateIan

Thanks for the flattery! But however much you may think I know, I should always keep an open mind.(I love the idea of a flying evil spirit. I'm not a repainter but the idea of painting a C130 in "FSX evil spirit" livery and hiding it in a bona-fide AI package appeals to my warped mind. Perhaps I should have it doing circuits round Bill Gate's mansion.)John

Thanks for everyone's reply's I think I have finally found the problem, I have been misled a few times by thinking I had found the problem, but I hadn't at the particular time I set the aircraft wasn't at the airport, so it didnt cause a CTD. So after realising I needed to keep the date and time constant, i found that it was my Monarch AI causing the issue, so I went to my aircraft.txt file and found that when changing from non AI aircraft to AI aircraft, I accidently missed one in my aircraft.txt file the 757! Seeing as they only have 1 in their fleet alot of the time its not in EGCC, so it tricked me into thinking I had solved my problem. Stupid mistake to make really but I think its sorted for good now!ThanksRob

Warped indeed! LOL As with a certain evil spirit in the gospels, "we are legion." (The Gedarene demoniac for the biblical scholars out there - the crazy guy chained up in a graveyard to the rest of us) There's quite a few of us warped people in this forum - perhaps that's why I like them so much!Cheers mate
