Reality xp gns530w with Real Air Duke major problems

Featured Replies

I am at my wits end with reality xp, they have refused to respond to my support requests. I am hoping someone here can help me with this one as I have spend $100.00 on the Duke and the RXP G530w.I have had many long months of virtually flawless FSX operation with AS2012, REX, Ezdok,NGX and frames externally locked at 30fps via NInspector. I decided to buy the Real Air Duke along with the Reality XP Garmin 530w to stay current IFR in my real life flying. After installing the Duke and then the RXP I got massive frame rate flux from as low as 5 quickly up to as high as 50. This as you might guess is causing massive stuttering. Ironically this happens after AS2012 loads its textures. Even worse, now all aircraft do this, even default. So I uninstalled RXP and the Duke, deleted each .dll and still had the same issue. I had a hunch that maybe one of the REX textures got corrupted by either one of these products and I reinstalled all of the REX textures and the problem went away. Stable frames at my locked 30, no problem. So I then reinstalled the Duke and went to my test airport with AS2012 running, as soon as AS2012 loaded the REX textures the stuttering and fps flux were back but not as extreme as before but definitely noticeable with fps fluxing from 15-45 and as in the previous case overshooting my external fps locker. It is like before I discovered the external locker and how things used to be where I always suffered from stuttering. Then I installed the RXP GPS and the problem was back full force with stuttering so bad I cannot use the sim at all. The fps is going from 5 to 75! This even though I am locked at 30.This is worse on the ground when either I am looking at the runway or tarmac or the tires are in contact with it, I do not know which. I do notice some stuttering just above the runway but not as bad as when on the ground. Up higher it almost completely goes away.Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I hope to be proven wrong on this - but the "straw that broke the camel's back" comes to mind...blaming it on the RXP GNS is a stretch...

I'll elaborate for Bert. From what you've described, it seems like it could be the fault of some of your settings, plus AS2012, and compounded by the 530W unit (I own them both and can tell you that both can effect FPS negatively). AS2012 more than the other...So, for starters:
  • What AS2012 resolutions are you using?
  • Are you using the compressed (DXT1) option?
  • Are you using Inspector? If so, what is your anti-aliasing settings (especially supersampling)?

Cloud resolution, I use REX for the textures are 2048, I am using DXT5 clouds and NInspector AA 8xsq no transparent. Problem is is that before installing RXP all was fine, fps would not always get up to my locked 30 but at least it would be stable and most importantly the sim always ran smooth. I spent 10 hours yesterday troubleshooting this and all is fine once I uninstall the RXP and go back to the Duke UI and select default Garmin AND then reload all REX textures. It is as soon as I install the GNS 530w and check to use this GPS in the Duke UI that the sim runs with stutters for ALL aircraft. This is not the case of to much for my system. If I can run the heavy airliner PMDG stuff at Orbx airports w/o seeing this and still getting smooth operation but when I load up a more simple light twin with the RXP and am at a default airport away from any cities it cant be an overload of my system. Along with the stutters comes occasional graphical corruption. It appears like the video card cant keep up but this and that does not make any sense. I could turn settings down but this would be missing the problem. Perhaps the gauge is sensitive to certain FS config settings like FFTF which I have set at .33.I have to go to work now so afterwards I will start in on the cfg file.Fun stuff.

DFW,I read that post. If I am running Affinity mask=14 which I am, I guess that means core 1 is the os right? If that is the case than GNS530w and FSX share the same core right? This could be the problem? How do I then assign the gns530 to a different core.I do not really understand but it might be worth a try. This whole thing sent me on a chicken hunt. I deleted my cfg, built a new one, had the same problem plus a whole whost of new ones due to the fact that I have a buzzillion addons and some got screwed up with the new cfg file. There are so many entries and add ons I could never figure out which one was wrong or right. I also got a g3d.dll crash after a 6 hour flight in the NGX on approach and just said the heck with it and put my original cfg back in.The GNS530 remains uninstalled now and get this. I have sent 2 support requests to Reality XP in the last 5 days and no one there has bothered to contact me. Based on this alone I will not ever be buying anything from them again even though I do not blame them for my stutters with their gauge for it seems to work for most. I just find it unacceptable that they cannot even try and help after I gave them $50 bucks of my hard earned cash. That sure is a nice looking panel you got there.

Yes, assuming Cores are numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4.Cores are actually numbered 0, 1, 2 and 3, and an AffinityMask = 14 means FSX will use all cores except Core 0, thus the operating system will have Core 0 all for itself, but will also be able to use any of the other cores if it "feels" like it.)Cheers,- jahman.

rxp is assigned to core -1 (minus 1)[GNS530]...CPU=-1 which is core 0.i know -1=0 sounds wacky. explained by jean-luc here:http://www.simforums.com/Forums/cpun-parameter_topic38319.html?KW=cpu

So to resolve the possible stuttering should I re-install and make a config entry for the GNS530? If so what should it say or how should I change it?Thanks!

To assign the GNS530 to CPU 0, do this:
rxp is assigned to core -1 (minus 1)[GNS530]...CPU=-1 which is core 0.i know -1=0 sounds wacky. explained by jean-luc here:http://www.simforums...319.html?KW=cpu

after installing RXP, you shoud have RXPGNS.INI in your airplane folder. open this and change or make sure the lineCPU=-1 is there. i think this is the default setting. you can do the same with the gns waas fsx applet in your realityxp prog group but editing the file is easier.fsx.cfg gets[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14now, i have a 4 core proc and ht is turned off so i have core0-3. if you have ht=on, it may count the affinity mask cores differently (i can't remember). if it does, it would be 11111100=252.
