Carenado V35 update

Featured Replies

Hi all, I just purchased the V35 Bonanza upgrade from Carendo since I have long enjoyed my original V35. The only problem is when I go to switch views I get a solid green area where the window is supposed to be. This will last a second or so & then go to the correct window. This did not happen in the original Bonanza. Any ideas? Thanks.Pat CallaghanTualatin 1.4Ghz512 ramTI4200 128meg video

Have not purchased the update yet. About the only thing I miss in the original is the prop and love the plane otherwise. (With the engine running Prop visibility is somewhat academic anyway). What is your evaluation outside of what you have mentioned? Do you think the upgrade is worth doing? Thanks:RTH

The plane is OK but if I knew then what I know now I would have not bought the upgrade. I was very happy with the original in both FS2002 & FS2004. They seem to ahve de-tuned the engine a little. Seems a little slower to get up to speed. A little more sensitive on the controls. This is what I was told about the green window problem from Carenado:" well ...you don't says what is your PC configuration...anyways we believe that is a fault of your machine...can be RAM, video card, processor..this model is more strong in many ways than the 2002 version...and FS2004 is not the same plataform than FS2002...it requires more RAM and uses more graphics resourses...please revew your set configuration...specially "display settings"...Are many public forums aboarding the problem ...we recomend www.avsim.com and www.flightsim.com" Don't look like I am going to get anymore help.

It sounds like it is just loading the texture... you know how sometimes when you switch to the outside view the aircraft is untextured for a second or two- thats because the texture is loading... so same thing applies to the interior...Jay :-wave

Hi,I did not previously own the FS2002 version. But, I had been considering getting this plane when the FS2004 update came out as I thought the V-Tail and Antennae on top(that is what's on the top of the cockpit outside isn't it?) is pretty cool looking and would be neat to have. And I liked Carenado's Cessna Centurion 210M quite a bit. So I bought it even after reading your post here.I also get the momentary solid green when switching views. Seems like it takes about a half second to load on my system. And that's what it is, loading time. When you switch views it's loading the entire Virtual Cockpit into your video cards memory, even just for one window area view. And I believe the green is probably due to the fact that the Virtual Cockpit's windows are tinted. If I switch views 2, 3, 4 or more times in quick sucession then I don't get the loading time. The window view pops up immediately because the Virtual Cockpit is still resident in the video cards memory. If on the other hand I wait a few minutes to switch views again then I get the half second of green area before the Virtual Cockpit is loaded into memory. One way around this is to just spend the entire time in the 3D Virtual Cockpit! ;)I'm thinking part of the reason you probably didn't notice this in the old version is probably because you were runnning FS2002. With this update you must now be using FS2004, correct? FS2004 is more graphically demanding and uses some different/newer DirectX calls than FS2002.Regards,Jim3.06 GHz Intel P4 on Asus P4T533-C(533 MHz FSB), 1 GB PC1066 Samsung RDRAM, NEC MultiSync FE2111SB 22" Monitor, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Videocard w/ v4.2 Catalyst Drivers, DirectX 9.0b, Creative Audigy2 Soundcard, 120 GB w/8 MB Cache Western Digital HD

I used the FS2002 version in both FS2002 & FS2004 with no problems or green windows. I just reinstalled the original V35 & it is working fine. Also, I tried removing the window bitmaps & the windows were green all the time.

I notice this behavior too. Any way to tone down the tinted windows?

I get the same thing with the updated Bonanza F33A.Jim

If they used a texture for the window tint, then you can edit the texture to tone down or eliminate the tint, don't know if this will affect the loading time, but might make it less noticable. I don't have it as I think the V tail is unattractive, so I can't check.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmthelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters

I also bought this aircraft with update. Same "green blank" screen for a second when switching main panel views on my Radeon 9800Pro - as has been mentioned this is just the texture loading. If it bothers you stick to the VC view which is excellent.Super little aircraft. Really stands out from the boring new computer shaped clones.RegardsAdam

I bought this new for fs2004 (2002 version and the upgrade ... a tiny bit annoyed there wasn't just an fs2004 version) and it's really great.I too get the green window for a second but I guess I can live with it.I was wondering if anyone noticed only one livery is present in this even though it advertises two paint schemes. I checked the .cfg file and it only reads one paitn scheme even though there is a second texture folder. I added to the aircraft.cfg file so it woul read the second paint scheme but my pilot shows as grey and theres a green rectangle on the outside of the side window.Anyway have both repaints working thoguh the setup installation ? If so I wonder why mine didn't set things up for the two liveries?

My update also only saw the one livery after it was completed...I've tweaked the other paints so they work with the new .mdl, although I haven't updated the alpha channels quite yet, so as for now they are without reflections. The best thing I can suggest is after getting the aircraft.cfg set up to look at the other schemes, look for the bmp files in the new scheme's texture folder that have the most recent time and date stamp, and copy them to the old scheme's folder. Make a backup of the old scheme's folder just in case you copy the wrong files. I believe there's two bitmaps--texture1 and texture2 I think, which contain the paint for the fuse and wings. You don't want to change those... There's a completely new bitmap for the pilot, and new ones for the windows....The update is very nice--very richly textured, but I note a couple of things. One's an issue in the old version as well as the new one, the other is something the old version had but which the new one doesn't...Issue #1... The polys in the wing, on the bit which is adjacent to the outboard edge of the ailerons, are missing. You can notice this if you deflect the aileron downward. I normally don't expect to see this type of mistake on a payware product, and it existed on the original as well.Issue #2.... This one is minor, but the vtail was visible if you panned around the V/C in the old model, but the new one doesn't have it. This was rather nice, and it gave the feel of a typical scan a pilot might do prior to a flight...Of the two, issue #1 is more annoying. I emailed Carenado several days ago with a screenshot, but no response so I suspect the team's taking a bit of a break. OTH. the $21 I spent for both the old and new V35 doesn't entitle me to 24x7 support--I'm pretty happy with what I got vs. what I paid. One thing I really like about this model is that it's easy on the fps, even given the reflections and nice textures... Carenado overall did a great job, although I wish they'd consider a patch to fix the polys and maybe to add the vtail back into the virtual cabin view. As for the "green pause" when switching views, I get it too. I may play around with it w/DXTBMP tonight. Since the sim loads a texture when loading the V/C, I may be able to find a format with less overhead than the one they used..... That may improve texture loading time on the windows... I'll post the results to this thread if I can get it a bit better....
