February 29, 201214 yr Thats just this evening after I installed it on my home rig.First up - performance : excellentI have a Q9550 on an Asus P5Q deluxe, with an Nvidia GTX275, and 16GB ram. Not a new machine, certainly not even medium these days. FSX for me is usually 15fps, I am happy at 25fps.Flight? It recommended low for my PC - tried that - silky smoooooth!Tried medium - silky smoooooth! Wah? The autogen at medium in Flight is already better than what I can run FSX at!Tried high - smooth. Not silky, but very very good. Scenery far better than FSX, especially the aircraft models. Other islands looming in the haze look terrific.Next up I tried a random Quick Match in multiplayer... And the magic started.8 others, some just fooling around, but a few people say 'hi'One other pilot (Pavel-something? Didn't get the full name) is approaching from 12o clock, he says my call sign and say he is approaching. Just like two GA pilots we slip into a chat about what gear we ae using, (we both have x52 pros - serious simmers!) he has a TrakIR which doesn't work yet. By now we've formed up, he's sitting off my left wing. We chat about impressive autogen, frame rates, weather settings. I'm in Australia and have to go to bed, he's in the US and has to get back to work. We peel apart and head back to our previous courses, and head home. The multiplayer is silky smooth, no stutter at all, completely unlike FSX.This is true immersion. Even just chatting in text we naturally fall into pilot-speak about height, airspeed and headings to form up, give warning of maneuvers and new headings. We chatted for about 15 mins out of the three hours I flew, but it was the best 15 minutes I've spent in a flight sim in years. The social side is where Flight might really shine.
February 29, 201214 yr I was actually wondering about that. Some were mentioning no Ai aircraft, and the world feeling empty, but I wonder what that equation would look like if FLIGHT! became so popular that there were constantly "Real" pilots in there air, instead.FLIGHT! The the social rpg of flightsims. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. February 29, 201214 yr Author Hardly a limit - 16 real people beats AI any day!I doubt I have ever flown FSX with more than about 16 AI planes nearby, even with MyTraffic2010. Ok, some statics on the ground, but 16 in the air at once? Being able to actually chat with fellow pilots is far more interesting & fun. Want ATC? DIY with a bunch of other real people!
February 29, 201214 yr just tried out the multi interesting but for me the FDE is so simple after 20 minutes it was boring, its not flight problem its becasue i prefer other things thats it its not built to my taste. So for free multi fan flights im waiting world of warplaines, :)ok going back to my lolvy ifly737 fs2crew and doing some lhbp-eddm trip.
February 29, 201214 yr Being able to actually chat with fellow pilots is far more interesting & fun. With FSX and our VA ACARS we can talk/text to 50+ pilots at the same time! Its not new or unique. Edited February 29, 201214 yr by Barnstormer1 ArDee
March 1, 201214 yr Author No, read what I wrote again. I did not claim it was new or unique.I did claim it was much easier to set up than FSX, and was also free of the stutters and lag I experienced with FSX whenever I tried it.FSX on my rig, with orbX Australian scenery, MyTraffic, REX and a few other tweaks can still turn into a slideshow if I set all AI to 100%, which somewhat defeats the purpose of all those rather expensive addons! $400 I probably should have spent on a better gfx card, heh?My comment about chatting with real pilots is that real people are always more interesting than AI flights.I like Flight because it is FUN; I do keep trying to make that point. FUN.I think MyTraffic came with a 'virtual aircraft spotter' - you can simulate standing at the end of a simulated runway watching simulated AI planes take off and land in that awkward wooden way AI flies in FSX - for me that was the moment FSX "jumped the shark". It just got a bit silly really. Real plane spotting is fun, if there are interesting planes and it isn't pouring with rain (I used to go and see the Concorde every time it came to Sydney). Virtual plane spotting is a bit odd to me.Aerocaches, missions, challenges - maybe you think they are odd; I think they're FUN.
March 1, 201214 yr Moderator I've exhausted my quota of Green Arrows for the day, so I can't add +1 to your Reputation score, but here's a virtual +1 for stating the point so eloquently!F U N is the name of this exercise.
