March 6, 201214 yr the thing is, why do we need to make these adjustments to make the game run? I have a good gaming pc, why am i not able to run it on high in full screen mode, why do i need to run in windowed with vsync off and hope it doesn't crash? Why is there no patching going on?Having the same issue as Gridley now - game crashes to desktop without any 'windows encoutnered an error' and no error log is recorded. this is a bit ridiculous now.Sadly I don't know the answer, but something is for sure, Flight uses the GPU a lot more than what FSX did.So it seems reasonable to think that it might be an overheating problem.(I had to change the graphics card on one PC with an older nVidia 9800, the other PC had a brand new GTX560 and had no problems) Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
March 8, 201214 yr @Gridley I have Flight installed on my Laptop and 2 PC's, Same problem with second mission; the solution I found on PC2 was to put Flight on windowed mode and turn off vsync. Both options are in Options->Graphics.Can you get the Problem report?Click on the Start button (vista / win7 only) Type “problem report”For Win7 you will want to select “View Problem Reports” Empty.I'll uninstall/reinstall and try windowed mode. I did try w/o vsync but still had the CTD. I'm inclined to suspect GPU as well, however I don't think its temperature, though I will monitor. My GPU fan is not working particularly hard (and is set to auto fan speed) and while the stock clocks on my EVGA GTX570 are factory overclocked, I have not overclocked any further... Error reports still empty. Had trace on for GPU. Temp maxed at 65 oC, GPU usage was less than 50% with a max of 62%...Oh well. I'll stick with FSX i guess... March 18, 201214 yr I will add this. Have not seen any way to fix the issue. Have tried all of the recommendations in this topic, and still have the issue. March 18, 201214 yr Flight can cause a thernal suhutdown on my laptop. This does not happen with FSX. I think there is a problem with the laptop. The processor and graphic processor are just too much for the internal fan. I suspect the graphics in Flight.... I have it on a chill pad. The best way to find out if you are getting shut down due to heat is to use something like Core Temp: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/I have mine set up so that it sleeps my laptop in the case of an overheat. This means that it does not shut down and I don't lose my place in Flight or whatever.Bizarrely I had my first problems with thermal shut down running Visual Studio 2010 which is not graphic intensive at all Jon ------- Microsoft Flight Sim MVP Airport Design Editor FSDeveloper.com
March 19, 201214 yr Hi Flashotime, welcome to the AVSIM forums. I will add this. Have not seen any way to fix the issue. Have tried all of the recommendations in this topic, and still have the issue. The best way to find out if you are getting shut down due to heat is to use something like Core Temp: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ Jon: Flight primarily uses the GPU; that is the main reason the GPU gets so hot. The CPU is less used but even so, core 1 goes up to 100% usage. Some heavy iron Laptops (as my Sony) have bad cooling fans and heat dissipation, even when using cooler pads. The only way around in my case was to set graphics quality to LOW.Bizarrely I had my first problems with thermal shut down running Visual Studio 2010 which is not graphic intensive at allThis may signal a faulty fan and/or clogged air vents.(Time to get some tools, a brush and compressed air can.) March 19, 201214 yr I posted your problem report over to the beta, site, let's see what we get.ramon, first of all I hope you enjoyed your steaks as much as we enjoyed ours ...question re these event reports. I have to say upfront that I - knock on wood - did not have a CTD the whole weekend and I guess I collected some 3-4 hrs of flight time. but in case they happen again, what does ms want us to do? shall I send them all to [email protected]? I am - against my usual belief - still participating in the 'tell MS what went wrong' program within flight and wonder whether they get these sort of reports anyway? at least I would not want to post more than 10 reports here for you to then relay them to the beta forum. so what is the process? any idea? March 19, 201214 yr Phil; thanks, steaks were great. Some of us are still fairly active over at the beta site, and our posts are usually seen quite quickly by one or another developer. Sometimes they have suggestions; sometimes they don’t; yet.For example, yesterday (late night) I posted Flashotime’s problem report, and got a developer answer in less than 10 minutes. Apparently that specific problem is very rare, so they need more info if available.Problem reports are supposedly reported automatically to Microsoft, not only Flight’s, but the whole Windows Operating System, and apps.During the beta we could directly post the BUGs through feedback, so sending the report to [email protected] might work faster than “automated” problem report to Microsoft, as it will be directly accessible by the development team. Send them all, and try to include as much repro info as possible. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
March 19, 201214 yr Send them all, and try to include as much repro info as possible.Ok. Will start sending a bunch later tonight. March 19, 201214 yr Mine has also crashed the last two times I've tried to load a free flight ...I admit to be very tempted by this solution:UNINSTALL ... NEVER REINSTALL ... BACK TO FSXJust joking ... never say "never"! Let's wait some time, anyway ...
March 19, 201214 yr Hi Flashotime, welcome to the AVSIM forums.I posted your problem report over to the beta, site, let's see what we get.UPDATE: A developer saw your problem report. Please provide more info on when/how this happened, can you remember what you were doing?ThanksThanks for the response on this issue. I have had 12 crashes that generated a report since 3/3. This does not include the times that the program just stops and exits to the desktop without generating a report. Most of the crashes are flying to the yacht (after the last re-install when I had to start over). After passing the yacht at low level, the games starts to stutter with red squares on the terrain. I can then land and when the scene goes to the movie of the plane on the water, it crashes. Sometimes the crash generates a report, but it usually does not. On the rare occasion when I can get past the yacht, it will crash in free flight. This can be with the A5 or the stearman. Doesn't matter what plane. The signs are the same. Game stutters, red squares on the terrain, and then crash. I have tried upgrading to the Catalyst ver 12 driver, and also downgrading to the ver 10 driver. Makes no difference. Ran the GPU-Z utility to see if there were any thermal spikes on my video cards, and did not exceed 70 degrees which is not much different than when I run FSX and well within spec for my cards. I added a couple of cooling fans to my case to be sure of proper cooling. Did not make any difference. Thought the thermal issue might be valid due to the shutdown after about 10 minutes into whatever activity I try. After seeing the numbers reported and taking measures to reduce the thermal load, I am not convinced that this is the issue. I will send future reports to the email you listed. This looks like an interesting game, and I would like to explore it further, and I am sure that others with the same issue feel the same.
March 19, 201214 yr I have to say upfront that I - knock on wood - did not have a CTD the whole weekendokay, grounded again. I am again in a loop of identified corrupted installations, multiple attempts to reboot and repair did not help.so, I am about to delete everything and try a reinstall from scratch. however, what shall I not delete if I want to keep my profile? I learned that some info is stored locally? even if XP and achievements etc are stored online in the cloud, what is it I must keep on my HDD in order not to start all missions from scratch again? any idea? March 20, 201214 yr @FlashotimeI got this from a developer, the x64 part does not apply to you. The red textures and crashing are signs that Flight is running out of memory and can no longer allocate large objects such as textures. Eventually the game will automatically close or end up crashing if it runs out of memory. What OS do they use (is it 32bit or 64bit)? While running Flight at a point where they would normally start seeing issues they should open Task Manager and take a look at the process tab to see how much memory Flight is using (Private Working Set). It should always be less than 1.3-1.4GB. If it is more than that it is a sign something to do with Flight is behaving badly. This could be a video driver, or even Flight itself. Since multiple people report this issue across a few different hardware configs it makes me lean towards some weird combination of hardware andor software is causing Flight to behave differently than it should. Any ideas the user might have as to what else is running on their machine at the same time might be a hint. Edit: If the user could also check %appdata%MicrosoftFlightContentErrors.log to see if anything is listed in there after the crash that might help as well. Ramón. March 20, 201214 yr Phi:If you want to reinstallBe sure to follow the unistall instructions, see herehttp://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2293882Remember, if you changed paths on Marketplace Client, use a subfolder, not the root, something like "D:GFW<Folder Names>"If you want to keep your local stats, be sure to make a copy of the files contained in:C:Users<YourUserName>AppDataLocalMicrosoftFlightPlayers<Hex Named Folder>orC:Users<YourUserName>AppDataLocalMicrosoftFlightPlayers<Hex Named Folder>CareerThe subfoder with a Hexadecimal Name ("Numbers and Letters") is the one containing your user profile (Career, etc).all those career? files contain your data.(I would make a copy of the hole C:Users<YourUserName>AppDataLocalMicrosoftFlight) (I have not done a complete reinstall, but that is the input i previously got from other guys at the beta site )Good Luck.
