Triple monitor setup, and SLI vs AMD Radeon

Featured Replies

Hello all,I've decided I'm going for the ultimate flight sim setup, and a big part of that obviously is figuring out the best display format, and consequently the best gpu or gpu setup.I like the look of a triple monitor format, especially after seeing some of the flight sim chair/cockpits I'd use it with. But I have seen on forums that some don't like having three screens, and/or they find having so many displays is taxing on the frames. If I do end up going with three displays, which is the best gpu(s) that could allow for optimum performance in such a setup. I guess the question to ask is.. nvidia sli, or a single radeon with eyefinity, say, a 6970? According to Nickn's setup and tweak guide, he doesn't advise using amd/ati cards with fsx. But I won't go off one source, and i really want to avoid spending over 7 or 800 just for two nvidia cards.Or... should i scratch the whole triple monitor idea and get one big 32 inch display.I would loove some feedback on this one, thanks!Pat

You can buy my 3 screen Eyefinish (!) set-up with the HD 6970, I want a Dell Ultrasharp and a GTX 580...

In the single screen vs. triple screen VC conundrum, the advantage if triple screen is immersion due to peripheral view, while the disadvantage (at least with TrackIR, which is essential to VC) is you're fighting windscreen posts with the inter-monitor posts (at least until no-edge monitors appear on the market.)Me, I would recommend get the biggest, highes pixel count monitor you can afford for VC + TrackIR + EZDOK, plus a second nonsense monitor to display undocked instrument panels/throtlle quadrants/GPS.Cheers,- jahman.

Who needs SLI or CF when you have this:Galaxy MDT 580 - http://www.galaxytec...Product224.aspx1 NV card 4 screens.Youtube of the GTX570 -

Stunning 3-screen panoramic view! (Beginning at 8.23 in the YouTube video).Would loooove to build a simpit with 4 screens or windshields + collimators +proper cockpit hardware...Cheers,- jahman.

Go for two GTX580's.Microsoft FLIGHT supports SLI so this will give you great FPS with awesome resolutions.

I have run both SLI and Eyefinity, and it's a tough call. I ran a Radeon 5770, and was very disappointed the slideshow when flying through weather. Other than that, the performance was awesome. Perhaps a higher end Radeon card would do better (though I doubt it).I currently run a GTX590 in Surround, and the performance is all around decent, though it gets a bit dicey around certain payware airports. I have found that there is about a 25-30% performance penalty using SLI, vs running the same card with only one GPU activated.I suspect that a single GTX580 w/ 3GB VRAM and TH2GO may be the best triple monitor performance solution, but I haven't personally had the opportunity to try this solution (yet). Here's to hoping that Nvidia gets with it, and gives us a Surround solution with a single card sometime soon.

That would be Galaxy's MDT cards. See above. So far the higher end models are getting good reviews. HardOCP gave the 580 series gold in their review.

Apologies for the possibly silly question, I've done some searching but most questions seem to be on which card to use.....I have just got 3 monitors working but can't figure out how to get FSX to spread the view over all 3......... :Straight Face:

I have a Q.IF I get the Galaxy MDT 580 or the MDT570. Can I use 3 monitors where the three monitors are not identical. meaningI have Dell 2 X 20" 1600x1200 (non widescreen) and 1 x Dell 24" widescreen 1920x1200I'll have the 24" in the middle and the two non widescreen would go on the left and right side of the widescreen. The height is the same for all three monitors 1200.So I would have 5440 X 1200Is this doable.. any ideas?
