March 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member When I'm flying at night the night sky is not black, I've got pretty much white clouds (though white they are not bright) and the ocean has a bright shimmer (also, not dark). Checking some threads and is it true to the only way to get a "black" night is to adjust your display? What are you guys doing for "the Dark Knight"?(I just picked up REX but I see no selections for something like that). March 3, 201214 yr Try adjusting your contrast on your monitor. LCD or LED monitors (LCD with LED backlights) don't even come close to blackest black levels ever seen. You won't find them on any computer monitor. Edited March 3, 201214 yr by magnetite Jeff Thomson
March 3, 201214 yr REX had made a good one which made the night...actually look like night! You can see screenshots of the ENB in effect. It can be found here. Happy Flying, Clem Wu Beta Tester for OZx, Iris Simulations and Shade.
March 3, 201214 yr Author Commercial Member Thx guys, good link Clem. Good discussion over there on night. Will have to read deeper and try there suggestion there. Not sure if that is part of REX or something he did on the side. Still reading with my morning coffee. Yea, I don't mind at all having some switch/hotkey to go between day and night settings... just need to find ideas like this. A good place to start. But always looking for more ideas/links on the topic. Working on my simpit night lighting today so I will try out some ideas tonigh.Clutch Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) March 3, 201214 yr Here is my setup, taxing and departing KACK Nantucket Rwy 24,over water with solid overcast. You can also add these lines to your fsx.cfg in the {GRAPHICS} section to control ambient light:DAY_THRESHOLD=32768NIGHT_THRESHOLD=4096Those are the default values. Try setting night threshold to 2048 or 1024. I quite like 2048, looks more realistic to me. 1024 will give you near pitch black. March 4, 201214 yr Author Commercial Member Eeech! Stephen... your's looks like the land of the eternal sun (or should I say sunset). Nah, luckily that is not my issue. I actiually, seem to get pretty black skies (maybe because of REX?). It's now more of the clouds and shimmering ocean (like always a full moon casting it's light on it).Hey Bigsky, I did try those settings (actually, just tried the night one), and saw no differentce. Maybe I need to add both lines for it to work? Your first couple of shots look darker but it reminds me more of a foggy night. Could that be because of the landing lights? The last two shots look alot like what I get. A dark sky with those ivory clouds. That's what I would like to tone down are those clouds. I guess clouds don't have lm textures associated with them. In the Nvidia panel I thought I thought I read somewhere there was a hotkey you could set up to quickly switch between different display settings?I thought I had this fixed a ways back but maybe that was with FS9. Here's a shot of what I am seeing. March 6, 201214 yr I have both lines in my FSX cfg, The only thing I havent figured out is how to make the stars a little brighter. I use Autostar x for my stars. March 6, 201214 yr Setting the digital colour format to YCBcr444 in the nv control panel, also helped in rendering blacks better.Reducing the gamma slightly may also improve things. DIMITRI
