Advice please on weather & traffic

Featured Replies

I've just returned to using my FS9 after a couple of years. I've had to reinstall the program due to now using an iMac. I've installed Windows 7 using bootcamp, which runs fine. However, I need some advice please guys:1) The best weather generation program available for FS9 - along with a download link??2) The best AI traffic program (which also allows for creation of user defined airlines/traffic) - along with a download link??Thanks for any advice!

Hi Algoz66, what you are asking is a very subjective question. What one person sees as being 'the best' might not be what others feel. However, in my opinion, My Traffic X pro is a superb AI program, with more options than you could ever need, so it can be as simple or as complicated as you wish. As for a weather generation program, while I use REX I have just recently started using a freeware program called FSreal WX lite and I have to say I am extremely impressed with it. Others use Active Sky which appears to have a good reputation. Although REX is unbeatable IMO for generating actual weather themes, I feel from what many have said, that it does not quite meet up to the expectations of Active Sky for generating real weather. No doubt you will receive a load of suggestions from other guys, it will be a matter of collating the replies and making your own mind up, good luck!http://www.hifitechi...e-sky-evolution http://secure.simmar...fic-x-pro.phtml http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/ http://www.surclaro....tail-19381.html

thanks for the info Rockcliffe - however when I went to the website for My Traffic X, it says it is for FSX - I am using FS9 - is it compatible also with FS9 then?

Ah, apologies. Well sure, just check it out. It may well be compatible with FS9, why not do a search...

Don't forget that there is also an excellent freeware alternative - World of AI have an amazing collection of ai files using the best AI models out there... And if you want military traffic as well, there's Military AI Works which is also outstanding stuff

As a user of World of Ai, its great, and FREE!!!!Also a huge supporter of activesky!!!! Never fly without it.

There is another piece to this if you want an environment that is as real as FS9 can render it. In addition to REX and ActiveSky, I strongly recommend you purchase a registered version of FSUIPC. Though the freeware one performs many invaluable services without which many of our addons couldn't function, the registered version will introduce a number of very significant changes to the way weather is rendered in FS9. It's hard to pinpoint exactly the difference it makes as some of them are quite subtle. All I can say is that when I finally got the registered version after using the freeware one for ages, my jaw dropped when I saw the difference it made and I found myself thinking "Why didn't I do this long ago?" If you want to get the most out of what FS9 has to offer, put this on your listTo me the essentials are:ActiveSky - real weatherREX and GEGround Pro - visualsWorld of AI and MAIW - AI trafficRegistered FSUIPC - too many subtle improvements to listFor GA AI, there are several freeware offerings but I also recommend Henry Tomciewz's HTAI Cessna singles. (If it is still available)If you like using water effects, then Zinerteck Water is recommended. I have it but most of the time I have water effects turned off because of weird cloud reflections so it's not an "essential" to me. But many people will tell you it is and they are right - if you want enhanced water effects, it's excellentCheersIan

I strongly recommend you purchase a registered version of FSUIPC.
+1

Hey Algoz66I am in the same boat as you, after a long hiatus from FS I am back into it, and looking for the same. Here is what I have come up with so far.Weather:I use ActiveSky 6.5. The update to that is AS-Evolution available at HIFISim mentioned above.Links:http://www.hifitechinc.comTraffic:I have used World of AI, and probably will again, however I am not interested in accurate Traffic at the moment, (maybe you are) but I am using MyTraffic2006 which was a payware product, but is now free. I have not started tweaking traffic yet, no time. You may want to swap out some of the aircraft, for newer models.Links:Freeware Announcement: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66855-mytraffic-2006-dumped-to-free-download/MYT2006 download: http://uploading.com/files/7a4dada7/MT2006V41_for_FS9.zip/Hope these help.
