Some experimental XP10 scenery shots ...

so my next system has to be 64 bit

Does that increased tree density have a big fps impact?
Well, everytime you increase some visual, you have to pay for it ... at least my feeling was, that it was not a big impact. BUT, this definitely depends a lot on the hardware (I have use GeForce 570)! Still, you can always tune them down a bit via the rendering settings, if it is too hard on FPS.
What resolution is the "hd mesh" you used in those shots?
Well, you can't give an exact number with X-Plane. Our Global Scenery uses an irregular mesh approach, where you have a mixture of larger and smaller triangles (usually we have smaller ones, where there are a lot of terrain features like in mountains, and larger ones, where the terrain is more "dull" ... like in flat areas). BUT at least the Scenery DSFs are approximately 2x the size of the default Global Scenery (and I configured our scenery creation tool, to have a max allowed point count 3x that of Global Scenery ... still, it dynamically decides to use more or less of that point pool).
Would there be a way to increase the mesh/texture resolution for orbit textures that seem to be used for anything further than 25nm too?
Well, they are note really a mesh in the sense of the classic scenery DSFs. Really only textures BUT with additional "elevation" values per pixel ... this is then extruded to a very rough mesh by the sim in real time. So, effectively one would "only" need to scale up (for example double the resolution) those textures. Though, I don't know if the sim is prepared to use that immediately (or would need a little code tuning). AND of course, by doubling the resolution we would quadruple the size of the orbit textures too ... going to something like 2,8 GBytes instead of the current 700 MByte (at least thats what I see in the folder now : /Resources/bitmaps/Earth Orbit Textures/).

Really a great job!I must say this is the first time i had the impression to see my current FSX scenery with FEX, UTX and GEX added but with much better highways and railroads. If this are the things to come then the future looks bright!

With kind regards,

Andras...what you been smokin' over there? That's some pretty stellar autogen work (minus custom scenery pics of course). I'm glad you're workin' for us :)Tom Kylerv10 airportsV10 aircraft

Tom, I am glad you are working for us too ... :rolleyes:But the cool thing is, that this HD mesh was almost a "no brainer" for me. All the preparations were already in place from the default Global Scenery work (well, that was 3 years of work, LOL) ... so, I really only needed to pimp our tool, to put out a higher res mesh. But the result is quite nice (as you can see).
