March 9, 201214 yr Close looking at the surface is fine, quite realistic. But when u reach some altitude, do you think the water seems static, no waves, just like a mirror with reflection. The water effect is set to maximum. I don't know it is my gpu rendering problem or Flight inherent one. How about yours? Do you feel realistic surface at some level?
March 9, 201214 yr Above a certain elevation (xxx ft) the water goes static. Makes no difference what you set your realism to, or what hardware you have.

I think the real surface should have the dynamic reflection at least. Even I look at the surface at 500ft to 1000ft, I still feel the water is static. That's not real for me if you can imagine what you see when you were in a final approach to an airport near sea shore.

All you will see will be the non-animated "waves" (color variations) that are part of the underlying terrain texture .- On higher graphic settings you should see animated water and reflections (but only if you have a D3D10+ video card).- The animated water bump map is not affected by wind or weather.- The water always animates no matter how high you are (But the animation can be really hard to see at higher flying distances).- They plan to continue tweaking it over time to try to improve it. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE

(don't know exactly, but it's not very high). Down low I do. All settings on crazy high, application controlled. Maybe I should let the cards override?

I think no wave along the sea shore is acceptable in this stage.I believe my gtx 480 not only supports dx10 well, but also dx11, even its oc performance is higher than default gtx 580.All settings are highest or maximum. But I am quite sure I can hardly see the water animation, as todev said. Can you see the animated waves or reflection at 700feet? If it is hard to see, I think that is far away from realistic scene.

March 9, 201214 yr I reported this issue into the beta and Arwen kindly answered also there but it seems she is the only one or one among a few that can see the water animation.I have an ATI 5870 with latest Catalyst and Flight graphic settings are set to super maximum everywhere but the water animation is still close to none or none at all, I can't see it anyway.
March 9, 201214 yr I was flying at ~1500 feet last night and I could still see some water animation. I had to really stare at it for a while, but there was definitely some wave animation.Have you guys who don't see any animation at all tried landing the Icon on the water? If so, do you still not see any wave motion? (My Icon bobs on the waves, and reflects on the surface of the water.)Try this: I just set up a Fair Weather, dawn flight with the Icon; took off from a coastal runway (or you can just place the Icon in flight near the coast); climbed to 1500 feet; and flew toward the rising sun. The waves were clearly animated. Even at 2500 feet, under these lighting conditions I could see some animation. If you cannot spot any, zoom in, and look where there are objects along shore (like tall trees or buildings) . . . as having a stationary object as a reference point makes it easier to spot the wave animation. You have to have your Graphic settings at High (or Maximum) at least for Scenery Quality, and perhaps also for Texture Quality. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE

At least that is my experience. The only way you would notice any movement would be if you were to stare at one spot for long time (which you shouldn't do when flying a plane!).The exception of course, would be surf, but even that appears fairly static if you just glance at it.
