engine sound cuts on and off

Featured Replies

My engine sound while cruising will cut on and off I don't know if its my computer trying to process to much at a time or what. Thomas Thompson

Had the same with all my sounds after SP1c. Check that you have your sound configured to stereo.

The same thing here - really strange. Pressing Q does not appear to have any effect. Oddly enough the cockpit sounds are not affected - only the engines. FSX ATC goes down with it.Brian Monroe

Gents,Please have a look at the remarks below - see if any of them help:Question 1) I am hearing strange engine sounds when they should not be present - for example when the aircraft is shutdown.Answer) This is a known FSX sound bug that occurs when changing views between the cockpit and the outside - press "Q" twice to reset all sounds after changing views.Question 2) I cannot hear the engines from the speakers but when I move my head left of right in the cockpit the engine sounds do reappear.Answer) This is because you have set "Surround Sound Mode" on your soundcard in Windows but you are only using Stereo speakers. Goto your soundcard options in Windows and select "Stereo Mode" instead of "Surround Sound Mode".Question 3) With surround sound speakers and in surround sound mode on the soundcard I cannot hear the engines from the front speakers but when I move my head left of right in the cockpit the engine sounds do playback from the front speakers.Answer) This is a limitation of the FSX Surround Sound programming - engine sounds only play back from the rear surround speakers by default - they only playback from the front speakers when you move your head left or right in the cockpit. If you want the engines to play from your front speakers all the time then you must select "Stereo Mode" on your soundcard in Windows.Question 4) I cannot hear the custom panel sounds like switches / levers / GPWS / TCAS etc.Answer) Make sure you have selected the correct soundcard channel in the FMC. Goto the FMC / Sound Options - select the correct soundcard channel which is connected to the speakers which are currently being used. Pay careful attention if you have a soundcard with many physical outputs, you must connect the speakers to the correct soundcard physical outputs and then select this output in the FMC.Question 5) My soundcard / soundcard channels do not appear in the FMC Sound Options.Answer) This may occur if you do not update your Direct X Drivers / Soundcard drivers to the latest version.a ) Uninstall the NGX.b ) Manually delete this folder: ...\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\PMDG\PMDG 737 NGXc ) Reinstall your soundcard driver.d ) Reinstall Direct X.e ) Reinstall the NGX.

Thanks, as i wrote in an other post, i fixed the problem doing as you've suggested, but now the headphones(g95 logitech) are the problem 'cause they don't make me hear any cockpit sound, and when i unplug them i can not hear anything, except engines, from the stereo as well...

Hi Guiseppe,Its most likely you are experiencing question 4) above - the panel sounds (switches / levers / GPWS / etc) only playback in stereo only and from one soundcard output only (the one selected in the FMC). If your headphones are not using this channel then you will not hear the panel sounds. Also - since they playback in stereo, you may not hear them as loud as normal if your headphones are simulating surround sound, probably they will only playback from the front left and front right only and not in any other surround channel.Try turning off all FSX sounds via the checkboxes in the FSX sound menu so you can troubleshoot the panel sounds - then experiment by selecting every available channel in the FMC to locate which channel the panel sounds are playing back from.

StilI I do not understand, we had no any 5.1 surround sound problem since Sp1c releasing and what happened with Sp1c and we lost engine sounds ETC?

Erhan M. ARTUC

Dear Erhan,Please provide more info -1) What aircraft type is it happening on (600/700/800/900)?2) Does it happen to non PMDG / default FSX / other aircraft? Please try default FSX aircraft or another addon company to confirm that your issue only affects the 737 NGX.

Dear Armen,When Ngx released, I completley recovered my computer and I made clean install Fsx and ngx and I have only installed payware aircraft is Pmdg 738 on my computer. No using any more another payware or default planes, even removed all default planes from Fsx.Until Sp1c I was hearing engines from front speakers as well but with Sp1c I can only hear when I move my head left ot right.I installed again Sp1b, sound works without any problem as before, but when I install Sp1c do not work. That means to me somethinks problem with Sp1c.Look at the people please, why they start to complain about sound after Sp1c?That happened deffinitely after Sp1c and while can use surround system with Pmdg sound, why we now need to switch stereo mode?Regards
