News on importing scenery/models into flight?

Featured Replies

There was a post on here a week or so ago about the potential for importing new scenery and aircraft models into flight, maybe even existing FSX versions since it seemed a similar engine/file format was being used. Any updates on this? It was an awesome prospect to potentially be able to tap into all of the existing 3rd party content...

I'm working on it (and have discovered how to import model files (WITHOUT cracking/changing/modifing original files). Just need some time to export proper model files (importing to 3DS is likely completed) :)PS:And it was strange to see that DLC files like extra planes & adv pack are also working almost straight out of the box (and without xlive)...

It was closed by the admins. This sort of thing involves cracking the security in Flight which is not a good idea.
Not to mention the legality of such things, which I am sure Avsim would be most concerned about.I suspect any thread that delves very deeply into this sort of thing will get locked and/or deleted quickly. At this time Flight is a closed program, no SDK available...

It is true that for past sims MS had a relaxed attitude to reverse engineering and so on. However that is in a situation where they were unlikely to suffer financially. There is a very different business model for Flight.

Don't forget as stated above that modding threads are likely locked by the Administration, so be careful and don't violate EULA's etc

I can understand if we were talking about unlocking microsoft content, but it would seem to me that importing freeware or paid for commericial FSX content into flight would be fair game, as mentioned, mods are prevalent in FSX and countless other games. At least I would think that a discussion of this nature (as long as it did not sidetrack into cracking security/obtaining copywrighted content) should be allowed until/unless M'soft requests it be removed.

Totally agree..

I think I posted the original post. I just wanted to know if it was possible now I can't even find that post. Oh well I give up posting here, I will leave the posting to the same three people who post all the time here . It truly is the happy clapping forum lol.

Welcome to the new Microsoft. What you are referring to was the old Microsoft.

Why give up on posting here? Are you flying Flight? This is a great community with a lot of good information here in the early days of the product. If you are not a Flight user, not your cup of tea, I certainly understand. I have been posting a lot here, namely because due to circumstances beyond my control, I have found myself homebound for the last couple of weeks, and probably the next couple of weeks. Once I am back at it though, I will not have the time to participate here like I have been, and I will miss that...As far as that thread, I am sure Avsim was just trying to protect themselves from any possible legal issues... hope you stick around, if you are running Flight.I have certainly seen some threads that have been positive, and critical , of Flight. There have been some good civil debates on the pros and cons as well.

I fly and enjoy flight. Hoping that it has a long future although I would like to hear moreOn guaranteed future support and exactly what will be implemented and what cost before I start investing in dlc.But I think it is best to have choice and the more sims the better. My only problem is with this forum . It seems that unless a post is positive it risks being locked or tossed in the bin.I think the mods have thrown the baby out with the bath water.I don't usually post on forum but the attitude towards anyone posting not a 100 per cent positive posts on flight just shocking.I also feel when you are given a role as a mod you should remain nuetral or at least seen to be exercising control on a forum in a restrained and fair manner anyway I am done lol. You can now lock guys lol.

I agree with you especially on your last statement about mods remaining neutral.I do feel it has gotten better in that respect, I think some were being a little overcautious at first probably due to what happened on this forum and it getting shut down prior to the release of Flight. I too saw a thread or two get locked and thought, what the heck was that done for? As long as it remains civil, with no personal attacks/name calling, anything that would violate the TOS, then a thread should be allowed - whether it be positive, or negative, regarding Flight. While I have been pleasantly surprised, I have certainly been critical on some areas as well - there are things that need to be fixed pdq, not having native Track IR support on release is just unacceptable imho, and if they do not add that before long, there will be no more DLC purchased by myself - I have emailed the Flight team the same thing.Anyway, it may just be my perception, but I think what you are complaining about, which is certainly valid, has improved somewhat over the last several days.Your call whether continue to participate or not of course! I do think it is getting better...And yes indeed, having the choice of more sims is a great thing for the flight sim community!

Yes I do agree in the last few days there seems to be a lot more moderate approach taken by the mods which is great.Which is good so hopefully it will continue like that for the future and I recognize that these people do great work most of the time for everyone's benefit so I do understand if I get some criticism for my views.Avisim is a great place I just became concerned that it could be damaging itself from within in reaction to a minority of fools from the outside on both sides of the flight coin

Agreed!
