Georender Alaska Cinematic with Aerosoft FS9 PANC

Featured Replies

If anyone is using the Georender Alaska Cinematic photoscenery that was released back around 2005 with Aerosoft's PANC Anchorage could you tell me if there are any problems with the two together or do they integrate well?

G'day kiwiflyer45.I own both, have both activated, use both every so often and have not noticed any obvious problems. Please be advised that I mainly fly heavies these days and have had only one or two GA float fights into PANC and Hood.

Thanks - that's pretty much all I need to hear. I didn't think there would be a problem but didn't want to spend the money and find out differently. Though I also fly "heavies" more often than GA, I really enjoy the FSAddon Glacier Bay and Tongas Fiords scenery and thought this might also make some challenging GA flying more attractive...

Well, I wasted most of a Sunday afternoon and evening getting this sorted out but with some help I finally got it all working. Not sure if it was worth the money or time but we shall see.... I wouldn't be in a hurry to recommend it to anyone but I may change my mind once I have been able to do a few VFR flights and see what the screen shots seem to promise. So far it's been a lot of frustration and $$$ for not much reward

Hi Kiwi,I have just started flying there, and am considering the Aerosoft PANC, and Alaska CInematic. COudl I bother you to find out what issues you had and what you did to get it working? Thanks very much for any help.

HiI had been using Alaska Cinematic for some years in combination with freeware scenery for PANC and Lake Hood. However as soon as Aerosoft PANC became available for FS9 I bought it and once I had uninstalled all traces of the previously used freeware scenery, I have found that it all works very well with no issues and I very much like the improvement that Aerosoft PANC has brought to this area. Alaska Cinematic, although now relatively old and not in the same league as addons such as France VFR scenery, does improve the scenery in this area to an extent and I have continued to use it for that reason. Being Alaska I find I mainly tend to fly GA flights in this area so hopefully I would have noticed any significant issues by now.Bill

Hi BillTo be honest, the problems turned out to be fairly minor and had as much to do with Aerosoft's "Launcher" than anything else. Once i got that sorted out and got PANC to display fully again, it was all fine. The other issue was placement of the scenery in the scenery.cfg file. The right solution seemed counter-intuitive to me but it worked - giving the Aerosoft scenery priority over the Georender one. (i.e. a higher number) I had assumed it would be the other way round. There were also some issues that I have come to recognize as caused by using addon mesh - sometimes it does more harm than good I think. If you do decide to buy it, there are some things to think through. One of them is that it doesn't have "hard winter" textures, which was a real surprise to me. Who can imagine Alaska without lots of snow? The other is that all the airports that are mentioned are simply either stock or just have a modified AFCAD. As I haven't flown in or out of a stock airfield in years, it was a bit of a shock and disappointment to see myself surrounded by those bland old visuals that I had long ago moved away from.It was clearly a ground-breaking product when it was introduced but it definitely shows its age now. I'm not really sure it's good value for money to be honest, though it certainly will enhance the scenery significantly. Sorry to sound wishy-washy but it's really one of those calls - some may think it's worth every penny and others (like myself) may be a bit disappointed. FlightZone or VFR France it is certainly not...CheersIan

Thanks for that Ian and Bill,I will probably get PANC from AeroSoft at the end of the month. I have Ultimate Terrain Canada/Alaska, I think I will stick with that for now, and reconsider Alaska Cinematic.Do any of you use FSEconomy in the area?

I think that's a good decision Jason. You will love PANC BTW - it's outstanding. Just one word of warning - when you install it, you HAVE to do so via the Aerosoft Launcher. I hate that app with a passion but if you don't activate the PANC scenery via the Launcher, you will have a number of major buildings missing...

Yeah, I have avoided Aerosoft stuff for that same reason. I really do a lot of research before buying anything, just because I hate to waste money. These days money is tight and with kids they usually (and happily) come first.I made a decision that when I do purchase, I am going to do so from a reputable 3PD, in addition to that, one who does not implement overly archaic protection schemes. It causes more headache than it needs to. Although I do understand the 3PDs need to safeguard their work.Anyway this may lead into a WHOLE other topic. Thanks again Ian for your helpful input.
