H80 sound solution?

Featured Replies

I was advised (cannot find the link) to just deal with the sound of the fans on the H80, as the design of the radiator required the high flow that produced it. I just found the solution to this, as these fans seem to offer the "Magical Solution".http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o26KOssbDOM&list=UU_SN80_V2GymyCWM2oTYTeg&index=1&feature=plcpAny thoughts, comments or advice would be appreciated, as I am thinking of getting the set to replace the H80

With my H70 I used the included resistors and then plugged the fans into the fan controller and lowered the fan controller. My computer is whisper quiet and since I don't really use FSX that much I have my clock speeds at stock so temps are fine this may not work necessarily for you especially if you have an overclock and/or poor cooling case.

Taylor, I do inded overclock (around 4.8) and have a great case (HAFX), and sadly enough for me I replaced my H70 which was fine with the H80.The benefits to me do not outweigh the higher sound levels, but I did the replacement out of frustration, as I had (for real) to replace two I2600K chips (Faulty).I finally decided to get the I2700K ( just to get away from the luck) along with a newer mobo (P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3) and the H80. I could not go for the NHD-14 as it is not available her in Dubai.

Get the Cougar Vortex PWM fans. They will not dissapoint. Just be sure to run them in push pull config for best cooling effieciency.Fans are HERE.I have the 140MM version and I can say without a doubt that these are the nicest quietest fans I have ever used. The push are very fast and they shoot it in a direct stream.

Adding a new fan will not help that much with the noise of turbulence over the radiator fins. What people forget is that when adding a new fan, typically they've just bought a slower speed fan for replacement. In that case, they've forfeited the CFM they were so worried about losing in the first place when they wouldn't put less volts through the original fan. Save yourself the money and turn down the fan's power (like Taylor suggested). Are you using the lowest or middle setting on your fan controller?

I am using the middle setting Zach.I was trying to quote your advice at the top of the thread. If you watch the link I posted, it seemed to be quieter by a universe, with the loss of a couple degrees or so on the H80, as opposed to the oem fans. I was thinking of getting two to replace the oem fans.Still hold to your opinion?Ben, thanks for the heads up on the cougar fans, looks interesting.

Yeah. Same opinion. Actually, Tom's video helps to prove my point. Why not just use the low setting on your H80 if you're willing to give up a few degrees? That's what a new lower CFM fan will do anyway. Again, the noise is coming mostly from the disturbance of air around the grill of your case and radiator fins. Corsair doesn't ship complete junk for their fans. Also, Tom is one of the most practical reviewers I know of. Subscribe to his channel!

Guys, I can tell you something about the Noctua fans (I have 6 of them, 5 on the radiator, 1 in the case): by far the best fans ever. They are quite old now, NF-P12, but still totally kicking and very silent (running on low speed, not sure if 5V or 7V any more). Not planing to exchange them, but man, those new fans really look inviting. They are definitely worth what they cost. Btw. bought them in 2009.

bought them in 2009.
Which is a major factor in fans I purchase. Depending on bearing type and manufacturer, some fans truly can be lemons.Too bad you gave no input in the way of the source of most noise with these radiators (the radiator itself). Everyone claims "these fans are soooooo quiet" when the difference among most $15 fans are negligible. Look at CFM ratings and you'll get a good idea if they're quiet or not in a radiator application, for the most part.

What is a factor, year 2009?I don't understand what you're aiming at with the second part of your message.

Zach, I "finally " hear you.Yup, sometimes it takes a little extra time for the cells up top to catch up to what the eyes tell them.I thought "again" it was the fans, but as you explained before, it was the air movement over the radiator.Ben, thanks for the heads up, looks interesting.

The fact that they're reliable enough to run heavily for 3 years with no bearing issues, motor burn outs, etc.

Waleed, apparently I was having issues communicating my point the day of my post. :unknw:

Or crank them fans up and get some headphones. Used to use surround sound speakers, but now I actually enjoy my headphones a lot more. Then again, living in Bangkok, you're pretty much limited to leaving in condos, so the bass on my old surround sound speakers really ###### the neighbors at 3-4 am. Even so, I don't have to worry about other external sounds bugging me on top of my fans. The headphones I have have amazing positional qualities so I can pinpoint where sounds are coming from on the ground, and where the engines are in relationship to the cockpit with ease. Of course that also comes down to the quality of the craft.

Zach, I had some issues with posting yesterday too. What I meant though is that you explained it to me one time before, but I failed to store it in my HD (Brain). :LMAO:
