March 16, 201214 yr I notice sometimes taking off i show the inner marker middle marker on my nd but when i make an ils approach they dont seem to show up. Is there a setting im missingThomas Thompson
March 16, 201214 yr A little confused, do you mean the marker dissappears? There's no on/off for markers, only control is to inhibit or allow the audio for markers. Not all approaches have them. Dan Downs KCRP
March 16, 201214 yr Most ILS approaches have an outer and middle marker only. An inner marker is associated only with a CAT II/III ILS for all intents. They are where they are, so it's only when you fly right over one that it "lights up" the appropriate OM/MM/IM area on the PFD. See page 10.10.26 in the FCOM Vol.2. There's not that many IMs and they radiate a fairly small pattern. Herman Ross Seattle, USA
March 17, 201214 yr Look at the approach plate. It will tell you it there is a marker (OM, MM or IM) or not. You'll only see them on ILS approaches. Take a look at this ILS for Seattle-Tacoma for example. You'll see the inner marker (IM) in the plan and profile view. Theres's not one on the ILS for Boeing Field, which only has an outer marker, and it's only shown on the plan view. If it's not on the plate, don't expect to see it in the cockpit. March 17, 201214 yr If you are in Europe, you will find that they often don't bother installing markers as there is a co-located DME station anyway - this serves the same purpose as markers (height cross-check). David Zhong New video every Thursday: Aircraft Lighting - Boeing 777
March 17, 201214 yr Outer markers and middle markers have been dissappearing in the US for several years. Come to think of it, I haven't seen either in a year or so. Dan Downs KCRP
