TrackIR 5 - Can't re-open after exiting FSX

Featured Replies

As I climb the learning curve of my new TrackIR 5, I've run into the following annoyance:I start-up the TrackIR v5 software (latest version). I launch FSX. TrackIR works as advertised with FSX. I end FSX. At this point there is no longer a TrackIR icon on my TaskBar. When I try to re-open the TrackIR software, I get a pop-up message box stating "Another instance of the TrackIR software is already running."Re-booting is one way to re-open the software, but certainly not an acceptable way in the long run. I discovered that although Task Manager does not list TrackIR as a running (i.e. open) program after I exit FSX, by selecting the "Processes" tab in Task Manager and then scrolling down to the first of three TrackIR listings, I can select "End Process" and the problem will be resolved (i.e. I can re-open the TrackIR software).Have any other TrackIR users had a problem re-opening the TrackIR software after exiting FSX?

My app minimizes to the System Tray rather than the task bar. Check the system tray after your exit FSX and see if the TIR icon is there. If your TIR software is in the system tray and you don't want it there then open the TIR software and deselect "Minimize to System Tray " in the Software Options menu (click on the TIR icon in the upper left corner). http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/support/TrackIR-manual-v5.0/tir5-Chapter_5.html

That's where it was... in the system tray! It never occurred to me to look in there. This also demonstrates just how little I know about elementary Windows... I didn't know what the system tray was. Now I know Thanks.

I am glad you found it. :)I personally like it in the tray and it seems to prevent issues with some games when I switch between applications.

I've found that sometimes after attempting to close TrackIR the icon will close (in the system tray) but the process stays running in the background. This caused the camera to not respond to a new session of the software.
To fix, I just open the Windows Task Manager (either Ctrl-Alt-Delete and select Task Manager, or right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager) and close any running instances of the TrackIR.exe.

Yeah that one got me too, I have the Track IR4 - but when I updated to the newer 5 sotware, it did the same to me.I guess it is set to do that automatically to help on system resources or something - after ending FSX, or whatever flight sim I am running at the time, I just click on the up arrow in my notification area, and there is the little Track IR icon. I then double click it and the software screen opens up again, so I can close it down...Btw, talking about Track IR5 reminds me I have been meaning to go ahead and order one, curious to see what difference there might be hardware wise, probalby not a lot but I like having the newer hardware...
