March 19, 201214 yr Commercial Member Hi guys, first post so be kind. I'm currently trying to get my head around running Xpx over 3 screens. The trouble I'm having is adjusting the view in the 3d cockpit. I can't get the zoom level right to enable me to see the cockpit as well as the view from the windows. So am I missing something, a tweak, plugin or is this more an issue with Xpx's rendering over the three screen resolution. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Best wishes,Jess B
March 19, 201214 yr You can change your field of view in the rendering options page, that should get you what you want.Welcome to the forum...
March 19, 201214 yr Author Commercial Member Thanks ping pong. I must have adjusted every Offset except that one. Cheers,Jess B
March 19, 201214 yr Jess, these keys should help as well, "," and ".". Set the FOV in the Rendering Options, then you can move forward and back in the cockpit with this "," and this ".". Without the quotes of course :(. I fly with 3 monitors, 4024x1024 and normally have the FOV at 85-105, haven't decided what I like best yet. Then, in the cockpit I move forward or back with the keys I listed, depending how much of the panel I want to see.Glen Gigabyte z590 UD - i5 11600k 4.9 GHz - 64gb 3600 MHz ram - RTX 3070 ti - multiple ssd - 34" 3440x1440 100 Hz Curved - Saitek Yoke Pedals Throttle Quadrant x2 - TM T16000m x2 Throttle - Win 11 Pro
March 20, 201214 yr Author Commercial Member Hi glen,Thanks for the reply. Now the lateral offset is sorted and I can see the cockpit clearly again, I've got a grip in the zoom commands. It's getting late here so I'll only post a few system specs for comparison. I'm running a i7 2600k oc'd to 4.5ghz, 8gb ram and a ati 7970 gpu outputting to three dell 23inch monitors. I'm not seeing anything close to the fps your getting, but the system is still kinda new to me, so it's a learning process. I'll post my rending settings in the morning. Thanks for e reply,Jess B
March 20, 201214 yr First off, you're using a 7970, and as far as I / we know there are still some (serious) performance issues / graphical artifacts with the 7 series of cards from AMD with Xplane, not so much with the 6 series, and below. There are still some ongoing threads over at the org where people continue to have issues. Also, with 3 23" monitors, that are probably at 1920x1080, for a resolution of perhaps 5760x1080, your pushing 50 percent more pixels than I am. That, and the fact of the ongoing issues with your series of card, you probably not getting the same numbers, although with that card the resolution difference shouldn't be an issue. Once Laminar sort out the issues their having, your card will shine. Do post your settings though, would be interested to see what you have set, and let us know the fps your getting and the situation and I'll try it at my end, perhaps others can compare as well.Glen Gigabyte z590 UD - i5 11600k 4.9 GHz - 64gb 3600 MHz ram - RTX 3070 ti - multiple ssd - 34" 3440x1440 100 Hz Curved - Saitek Yoke Pedals Throttle Quadrant x2 - TM T16000m x2 Throttle - Win 11 Pro
March 20, 201214 yr Author Commercial Member Thanks Glen, I was unaware of issues with the series 7 ati cards. Your right that my resolution is set high. With bezel correction I'm pushing at 6064 x 1080. I'm away from my rig at the moment, but I'll investigate later when I get home. Once again thanks for the reply.Best Wishes,Jess B
March 20, 201214 yr Wow, how does it look at that resoloution, and are you seeing any graphical artifacts? That's a lot of pixels to push, 60% more than my system. Here's a couple of the threads from the org where their having issues.http://forums.x-plan...showtopic=56174http://forums.x-plan...showtopic=56217Glen Gigabyte z590 UD - i5 11600k 4.9 GHz - 64gb 3600 MHz ram - RTX 3070 ti - multiple ssd - 34" 3440x1440 100 Hz Curved - Saitek Yoke Pedals Throttle Quadrant x2 - TM T16000m x2 Throttle - Win 11 Pro
March 20, 201214 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Glen,The attachment should show you my current settings. Now because the system is still new to me, I spent a little time playing around with the various rendering options this afternoon. Impressively, setting everything to max (not including clouds) only brought my FPS to 10 (not bad over 3 monitors). HDR reduces my current frame rate by around 5 FPS to 15, off i'm getting say average off 20 at these settings. From reading the various threads you provided links to, it would appear the HD 7 series cards a driver short of out and out performance nivarna. Personally I prefer Nvidia and on my other system runnig an i5 2500k :4.5Ghz with a single 32 inch monitor and driven by a standarf 560GTX, I'm seeing much better frame rates. Go figure Eh!
March 20, 201214 yr Well, to get a few more fps, I turn off the "per pixel lighting", noticed no visual difference, but gained close to 10 fps. Texture resolution I now have set one lower than extreme. Water reflection I turn off, don't like the look at all on my system, not sure of the fps hit there. Running at such a high screen resolution you could probably lower your AA to 4x, although it doesn't seem to matter much performance wise on my system, all the way up to 16x. It might though around clouds. My clouds are generally around 45, other than that, things are very similar. I think it's the very high resolution of your system that makes the big difference. Also, in the ATI control center, I have everything set to default for my card. I do sometimes overclock the GPU, the gains do not seem worth the extra heat and stress.Notice at the bottom, your texture use is getting pretty high, 1872 meg, you might want to try with "compress texture to vram" on and see what happens. I generally try to keep that number around 1000 meg, if you can.Glenedit: The 7970 should perform way better than the 560, there's no comparison on paper, hope Laminar can sort out the issues. I will switch to Nvidia, but not until they come out with a card that offers multi monitor support, well at least three, on a single card, not holding my breath. March 20, 201214 yr I have not had xplane up recently, or any sims for that matter. So I loaded up the most recent to see how it was performing now with eyefinity. Previously I could not run at 6000x1080 as the fps was too low. What I do is run it in windowed mode and spread it over 1/3 to 1/2 of each of the side monitors. With my 3x42" monitors I have a true ~ 170deg FOV but I dont run it like that or there would be no fps. Running at ~ 110 I was getting 17fps which dipped a bit. I do notice in this build and its probably noted elsewhere that there are a lot of drawing issues for mountains in the distance and a lot of things closer flashing. If I had more time for playing simming and not building simming stuff I would get to the bottom of it. BTW, I noticed that the fov setting seemed to dictate the FPS, not so much the resolution. I.e. at 1920x1080 with 110 fov I would get 17 fps. Double the resolution and I would get the same FPS. It looks like its bogged down rendering everything in that FOV while the GPU still has a lot of headroom.
March 21, 201214 yr My two cents here... I am running a similar configuration- i7-2700k @ 4.5 with an Asus 7970 DC2T overclocked a bit to 1150. I am running eyefinity at 6080 x 1080 with similar settings, except HDR enabled & no cars. I typically can get 25-30fps depending on the location, even with airport detail at extreme. I set my FOV at 90° as that seems the most "realistic" to me. Sometimes my frame rate will drop below 20, but for the most part it stays very acceptable in my opinion. If Laminar/ATI do end up finding a "fix" to the 7000 series, it should only improve from here.
March 21, 201214 yr I must admit that after updating it reverted to real weather at seattle which was sunset and a few nasty clouds. I think the frames would have been a lot better on a better day and I would normally run without real weather because of that.
February 13, 201412 yr I am on two screens 20" x 2 , you need to set the FOV in the rendering settings. As I am getting a resolution of 3200x900 my FOV is set to 115-125. You will have to adjust the FOV as you see fit. Wow I would not mind one more screen. LOL this post is two years old , but it did show as a recent one Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
