March 23, 201214 yr One of the questions that arose from our recent upgrade is that of the SEARCH function, found at the top of every forum page in the blue header at the top.Recently, we installed a function that incorporates a GOOGLE search function for the forums. We allow GOOGLE to index our entire forum, file library, web site and reviews. If you do a search using the default GOOGLE search, you are searching NOT ONLY the forums but nearly every nook and cranny of AVSIM.If you click on the GOOGLE SITE SEARCH grey bar inside the search form, you will be given choices of forum only search choices. If you use this approach, you will be using the internal AVSIM search engine, and limit your search significantly. We recommend that you use the GOOGLE default and that will also allow you to expand your search to the web, if you wish.

April 4, 201214 yr Excellent idea for some. As for me, I would have preferred to be able to decide if I want the google site search option as the default option. When I search on AVSIM forum I start by searching on a specific forum and thereafter, if necessary, I would extend my search on other Avsim fora and lastly, but very rarely, on google. This is because google can bring you such a clutter of unappropriate answers. But I fully understand and respect the fact that Google might put some requisites on Avsim to have them as the default search site. Jean-Jacques Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI

April 6, 201214 yr Hi Tom, yes I did. This allows me to choose another search option, forums for example, but I cannot choose "Forums" as the default search, at least not under Safari on a Mac. I'll check under Win7 to see if my choice of "Forums" remains as my default search option. Jean-Jacques Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI

If you want to search any other part of AVSIM wihout Google, click on the area you want to search. Again, the reason Google is defaut is that it searches much more than the forum here at AVSIM. We're not going to change that because it is a much more powerful search than the previous approach.

April 16, 201214 yr This is nice but it does not fix outside google searchs. Otherwise, when I search the net for a specific search string and it gives forum posts from Avsim, I CANNOT open those without getting a 404 error. Something is still out of kilter. . . Joe Porter

With our issue with FURLS that we reported in the last day or two, removing FURLS upset Google's existing database of links. I have shut down the Google search until they can catch up with us and you are now back to a native IPB search system.

That is the type of search I do most often (i.e. searching within the PDMG NGX forum). I know I can do it with the advanced search, but that interface is really clunky. EDIT: Never mind... I just saw that the option was available within a forum. I had been looking at a specific topic. Thanks for adding such great functionality Thanks, Bill Rowe
