The unsung beauties no one knows of and the ambitious projects that failed to gain momentum are sometime sthe most interesting and beautiful aircraft. I'm talking particularly about airliner. The Lockheed Constitution, Ilyushin and Tuploev's failed attempts at a 4 engine piston engined airliner, lockheed's sst design, etc. Has any addon developer ever worked on those planes or planes like them? On antother note, except for the ANT-20, FSX and FS2004 are completely devoid of pre-ww2 soviet civil aircraft, another area I'm interested in. Why don't any exist? Just the lack of information and photos?

My friends, Each day we see members generate a repetitive posts here at AVSIM because they did not bother to first search the AVSIM forums or take the time to first search a product manual. Sometimes this leads to the original posters receiving a very negative response from members of the community, which at best embarrasses (or should) and at worst creates ill will or possibly alienates someone from our community. Someone might wonder why this is important. After all, we're all aware that AVSIM has unlimited disk space and bandwidth (lol). The answer is quite simple. The AVSIM forums are a valuable resource and wealth of information which allow the community to quickly search and receive a wealth of information on almost every topic or issue in flight simulation. The problem is that these repetitive posts eventually "sit" on top of original posts which usually contain the information needed to understand or address an issue, and can eventually obscure the the informative contained in the original posts. If something isn't done, I'd argue that searching the forums will at some point become an exercise is sifting through countless, repetive (if not worthless) posts rather than leading one to the answer one is (or should be) searching for. I know first hand how hard the moderators are working, and they're doing a great (but thankless) job. But something else has to happen. I won't be so bold as to think that I have the answer here, but maybe two suggestions to start the ball rolling towards developing a solution. 1. Send a SHORT email out to all AVSIM users about this problem (anything more than three or four short sentences and I question if people will read it). 2. Create a short, two or three sentence notice that new users will have to read (and answer) informing them to search the forums before posting. I realize these are not solutions, just something meant to get the ball rolling. Thanks for your time. -
How can I search for an airport by city? -
Hope all is well! I'm on version 2.6.19. In Search, when I select the checkbox for Towered Airports, I see results that are dark blue (as expected), but there are also magenta airports shown as well. From the Manual: Airports having control towers are shown in dark blue others in magenta. I'm probably missing something simple... thought I would check here to see what's up. Thank you in advance. I usually come to the forum and click "View new content" at the top-right, but with the popularity of the Flight forum, all this results in is a multitude of topics that I don't want to read, so I have to filter through them. I'm by no means being another complainer regarding the Flight forum, I think Flight has its merits but it's just not for me. I'm simply looking for a way to un-link that sub-forum when I click "View new content," so please don't make this into a "I hate Flight" thread, I'm bored to death of those...Thanks for any and all help.

We have added a new, small, feature that you might find useful. Go to your profile and select MY SETTINGS. At the bottom of the menu list on the left side, you will find BLOCK TOPICS.When you do a search, up until today, your search would include all forums and subforums in the AVSIM System, unless you picked a specific forum or forums in the advanced search selection, to check only. This mod allows you to select the opposite logic. That is, instead of selecting forums you want to search, this mod allows you to block those forums that you do not want to be included in your search. The function is persistent. That is, your choices of blocked forums will remain until you change them.

One of the questions that arose from our recent upgrade is that of the SEARCH function, found at the top of every forum page in the blue header at the top.Recently, we installed a function that incorporates a GOOGLE search function for the forums. We allow GOOGLE to index our entire forum, file library, web site and reviews. If you do a search using the default GOOGLE search, you are searching NOT ONLY the forums but nearly every nook and cranny of AVSIM.If you click on the GOOGLE SITE SEARCH grey bar inside the search form, you will be given choices of forum only search choices. If you use this approach, you will be using the internal AVSIM search engine, and limit your search significantly.We recommend that you use the GOOGLE default and that will also allow you to expand your search to the web, if you wish.
