March 28, 201214 yr I am interested in getting FS2Crew, because everyone is raving about it and say that it is a must have. I have no idea how it will help me.Due to work I however, I only manage to get 2 hours or so a month on the NGX, so in fact I'm still learning to fly it....slowly.The question is, should I learn to fly the NGX first and thenget the FS2Crew...or just dive straight in?Thanks Richie Lumsden
March 28, 201214 yr What FS2Crew does is to provide you with a First Officer [or more accurately I think Pilot Not Flying] who does exactly [subject to FSX limitations] what a real FO/PNF would do.That leaves you to do only what the Captain/Pilot Flying would do. That involves much less actual button pushing and lever pulling but replaces it with the proper management of the flight within the pretty realistic procedures embodied within FS2Crew. An example would be that with FS2Crew, you HAVE to consider what the decision height is for the runway you'll be landing on to make it work in a satisfying way, whereas without it you can more or less ignore what is actually an absolutely vital piece of safety information. If you really want to learn what every switch does and every light means, learn the NGX first. At 2 hours a month, that should take you about 10 years! If you get FS2Crew you don't have to learn all the boring stuff the PNF does, just the exciting [and difficult] bits you as PF have to do.You'll find you don't actually push many buttons yourself but you have to do things right to make sure the other guy does, which is actually harder and more satisfying, I think anyway! If, after what are bound to be one or two failed attempts, you want to use your 2 hours to do a highly realistic flight without becoming a fully qualified pilot, get FS2Crew and learn the relevant bits only. I'd do that if I was you!
March 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member You don't need to "master" the NGX, but you should know how to program the FMC, which isn't hard because there are a million tutorials out there explaining out to do it.The FO does most of the work in the plane anyway, so if anything it will help the NGX newbies.Cheers, B. March 29, 201214 yr The way I see it is, FS2Crew will actually teach you how to operate the NGX correctly from startup to shutdown. Once you are comfortable with flying the aircraft you can then learn about what the right hand seat is all about.
March 29, 201214 yr Author Thanks for your replys...The decision has been made....I'm gonna get on with Ryan's two tutorials and the get Tom's done as well....and it'sFS2Crew for me!Cheers! Richie Lumsden
April 2, 201214 yr I'm sure you'll be most impressed and happy with how it makes flying the NGX even more real :(
