C90 Engine Upgrade

Featured Replies

I realize I'm jumping the gun here since the C90 hasn't been released yet, but can someone enlighten me on modifying engine characteristics in FSX? I'm interested in dropping in some -135A's in my C90 once it gets "delivered". What should I be looking for in the FDE and aircraft.cfg?Scott

Thinking back on all the efforts and time Bernt spent into modeling the PT6-21er engines I think it is not as easy as one would expect to make a "mod" to these engines when you wanna keep the plane realistic in fsx´s limitations. I can also recall that the gauges would also have to be updated as they are signed different from the 21er ones.So under the line ... I don´t think it will be easy to do this and also having in the end the same grade of realism compared to the original release when doing such a mod ... and hence it is also a turboprop-engine-model, being the very tricky one to play arround with.Just my two cents! :(

Best regards,

That's certainly sound advice. I'm notorious for tinkering so I'm probably going to mess with it anyway though haha. I'm just a huge fan of the -135A's in the C90. It's like night and day between them and the -21's. I'll just keep several backups of the original (which I'm sure will be excellent) in case I destroy something in the process.

you could always adjust the "thrust scarlar" in the aircraft CFG to 1.05 or something to give it that little extra

Hello Scott --- you can of course, tinker to your desires with any plane and its available characteristics. One way, the way that I do that, especially if I want to build a ficticous modified version of a plane, is to make a backup of the stock aircraft.cfg file and rename it and store it away. Then you can make changes and compare the two configurations at any time to see what you have accomplished. If this is some thing you have never done before and are learning about aircraft physics, Microsoft has a good breakdown of all the parameters they use in their configuration files for FSX. Check their site if you are interested. I strongly recommend this approach if you are going to make changes to achieve an altered performance characteristic.

There are other steps beyond working with the aircraft.cfg file, namely the *.air file that has impact on the model as well. Guess it says there is much you can experiment with and I have found it fun over the years with FS to work with the internals of the aircraft and the simulator itself. Understanding what you are doing is key.

Have Fun --- Cheers --- Bob :Big Grin:

That's no small task... seriously.

It would have been nice had they made the C90GTi... a much better representation of the C90 in my opinion.
