Propwash / Wake effects from other airplanes...

Featured Replies

Just out of curiosoty, did any of you MP guys have the chance to test if FLIGHT's propwash affects an aircrat behind you?

On tarmac, placing you RV6 right behind another airplane, can you glimpse the propwash when he firewalls the throttle?

Parking brake must be set and in order to be fully effective.

I have noticed the very light plane like the Icon move around on windy days. I'll have to give that a try with the propwash. That would be super cool if that effect was built into the engine. Have you noticed that the trees sway in the wind? There are a lot of really neat things like that. I also have noticed that the lighthouse beacon coming on in a fog situation.

Yep, I did read your report, it's really cool that those details are modelled :-)

Flight unlimited 3 modelled wake turbulence and even on prop aircraft the propwash could be felt by another airplane standing behind :-)

I don't know if propwash affects other planes, but it doesn't affect world objects.

I can't see the image (?)

Ok, now I see it.... :-) Thanks RoboRay !!!

Well, it was certainly asking too much, but it did affect objects and other aircraft in FU3 :-) - Great sim it was.....

Ok nice. but.... what would be the benefits of propwash affecting world objects anyway?

Unless i'm wrong but I don't really see the needs so far, waste of code I think no?

No benefit I can think of, really... It was just a test of whether or not the aircraft produce a propwash. World objects do react to wind (see smoke stacks, wind mills, etc). If propwash affects other aircraft, it would probably be modeled as a wind effect. The wind sock failing to react to being blasted like that is a strong (but not conclusive) indicator that there are no propwash effects.

Negative on the propwash on other planes, I've done enough group takeoffs with Kaloyanic that I'd have noticed that.

Were you below those other guys, though? IRL you have to be pretty close behind, and a little lower than you think, to feel the propwash. Really lets you know you screwed up if you're on tow :).

Ok thanks for the clarification. It could also affect the FPS too and I guess that's why programmers do not code for propwash influences on the environnement.

Yes, not really a "must have", but since FLIGHT already includes so many tiny interesting details, and since Flight Unlimited 3 did model propwash and wake turbulence, I was just curious :-)
