Systems and fidelity of flight models

Featured Replies

Hi all

This is not an attempt to stir up trouble or anything, but I am new to P3D (haven't really tried FSX that much), hence the questions.

How would you rate FSX/P3D's ability to accurately model aircraft systems compared to DCS:A-10? Now, I realise a military aircraft and a Cessna are hardly comparable, and yet: can FSX really model all the electrical systems etc in a Cessna or are the payware producers like Carenado 'cutting corners' and if yes, how many?

:-)

Next question is helicopters: how would you rate the aero dynamics of FSX in this regard? I've flown Blackshark extensively but only tried the Robinson in FSX.

Accurate systems can be done and has been done.. It's not that developers are cutting corners, it's just to do it 100% to the last electrical wire accurately takes an insane amount of time and money. ie: It's very risky..

Set an hour aside and watch this.. This is FSX..

Damn, yes, that is impressive (and a little crazy :-)). Totally on the same level as the DCS series!

Valar, please note that this is FSX plus an add-on (the PMDG 737NGX).

The add-on is more expensive than the simulator.

But the best there is if you want to get into that much detail.

Also you should consider that the DCS A10 is a dedicated simulator of just one aircraft in small region, just as the Blackshark, while FSX and P3D are generic simulators capable of simulating many different types of aircraft on an almost complete earth scenery. This comes with trade-offs.

What did Nick use to move around the cockpit like that?

I have Ezdok but never got it to work like that, totally fluid on simultaneous multiple axes.

Edit: looks like I need to RTFM of Ezdok as there's stuff in there I've not touched on yet!

Talking about flight models.

Does anyone know if the FDE SDK has been improved since FSX ?

FLIGHT (altough it became very boring very soon) definitely has improved flight dynamics compared to FSX.

The SDK remains the same, but LM has cleaned the way P3D use the FDE so they run better. At least that is what some fde developers have told me.

That's bad news. Doesn't make sense to switch to P3D for an FDE designer in that case.

Nevertheless thanx for the heads up.

However, after a very long break I'm starting to work with x-plane again as v10 is really a big step forward....

I think I would just add that since P3D is based on FSX coding, you should be able to get the same quality in P3D as you do in FSX. :P
