New Computer; Need advice

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

For the first time ever im going to buy a new computer for FSX. Ive been playing it on poor computers since 06 and now, im finally going to buy a new system. And i need your help and knowledge to get my "dream" FSX system. Sadly im kinda limited to around $1500-$1800(~1300€ or about 11 000 - 12 000 swedish crowns because i live in Sweden).

Anyway this is my cart so far; http://www.inet.se/k...5298/2012-04-06

Please comment about it. What parts should i change etc.

A few questions;

* Is the i5 2500K enough?

* Is 8 GB of RAM enough?

* What about 120 GB SSD?

* What do you think of the Motherboard?

I would like to run FSX with some of the amazing addons out there like;

*REX2

*PMDG 737 (as well as the upcoming 747.v2 & 777, will this be possible?)

*FSDreamTeam JFK/Honolulu

*USCitiesX Chicago/SanFransisco

*ManhattanX

*FlyTampa HongKong

*MegaSceneryX / Tileproxy

My question is will this be possible with a system like my cart? How well do you think my cart will run these addons? Any idea? Guess? biggrin.png

I dont want to waste about $1800/1300€ for a system with about 5 FPS on the ground while taxing with the PMDG.

All help is appreciated!

Sincerely,

BigBadMacys

yes, it will certainly do that, i got a very close specs as you can see in my signuature, also i am running the NGX at hight resolution, and a lot of airport sceneries such as munich aerosoft, UK2000 gatwick and manchester. and get at least 17 fps online with Vatsim, and active sky 2012.

cool, a question tho; have you OC your i5 2500K ? or you still at 3,3 ghz?

Edit; and whats your average FPS at, lets say 10 000ft with the NGX?

Cheers !

i haven't overclocked my CPU, yet, i am not planning to do it in the near future, i get enough frame for me, for your second question it's really depends, water/ density vs non density area, and traffic, vs no traffic, my avarage at this height is around 23-30 fps. and your'e very welcome mate.

Get 8GB RAM, you will use 3,5+ most of the time so 4GB is too little.

Dont get an aftermarket air cooler now: just keep the stock one and save money to get Corsair H70, H80 or H100 (watercoolers) or Noctua NHC14 or NHD14 (air coolers). With that you will be able to overclock and your CPU wont ever overheat.

I would get a 750W PSU in case you want to upgrade in the future you wouldnt have to change PSU again, but that is your choice ;)

first i have two pieces of Corsair 4GB (1x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz XMS3. And secondly what about the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 ?

Make sure you buy RAM in pairs. Never piece together your RAM with single sticks. Personally, I prefer G.SKILL memory, something like this is what you want if you plan to overclock your CPU:

If you have any questions just ask.

It's a 4 heatpipe / 120mm cooler vs a 3 HP / 90 mm

Definitely worth 60 SEK IMO

and for RAM, something like this should do

Okey, anyone got any objection about these http://www.inet.se/p...hz-vengeance-lp ??

Or ill pick them !

Whats the right settings then? Or you mean in general, not 100% traffic etc ? :biggrin:

don't use the traffic from the default FSX, use online traffic Vatsim or IVAO if you can, if not you should really buy ultimate traffic 2 or something like that, also you should try some verious settings in fsx and pick the right one for you, that in general what i meant. cheerio.

I'm overclocked at 4.4 ghz right now, running UTX (with night lighting, my fps drops a little bit, but it is still pretty good), REX textures, GEX, UT2, and the 737NGX, my computer runs most if not any airport easily, but I do not own any payware airports, so I cannot say how my rates would be with them. I'm locked at 28 and usually hover around there unless there's a lot of things going on.

Above 10,000ft I hardly if ever get under 28 FPS as my computer doesn't have to load as much as it would on the ground.
