MrKen is referring to the Western Digital Velociraptor drives which are 10k rpm. They come in 150, 300, 450 and 600 Megabytes.

But how big difference are we talking about with 5400 rpm VS 10 000 rpm in loading scenery / fps ?

In fps none, in loading scenery a bit more, but barely noticeable, better to get SSD.

what SSD?

what SSD?

SSD is a solid state drive, instead of having an internal disc spinning and storing data it's just microchips. They are about 5 times faster than conventional HDDs, although they are more expensive, so what I suggest is: get the conventional HDDs you need now to store data and games, and in the future, buy an SSD and put Windows and the games you mostly use on it (incluiding FSX), and you will see a difference in loading times. Have in mind that if you want to put games on it (especially FSX which is heavy if you have many addons on it) you will need a 120GB SSD at least.

Ok im back with a new and updated cart; http://www.inet.se/k...2672/2012-05-26

I'll buy my new computer in about 1 month and need some last advice for my cart.

My questions are;

Which CPU cooler should i pick?

What about the Intel Core i5 3570K 3,4Ghz (Ivy Bridge) VS Intel Core i5 2500K 3,3GHz ?

Ive read soemwhere its not as good as OC compared to the 2500K, correct?

How will the 3570K handle FSX?

Any thought on my cart?

Thank you

I would maybe consider a slightly smaller conventional disk, and slightly bigger SSD if I were you. I have been over 100GB on my FS, and you want to have both Windows install and FSX on the SSD. I say you go for 256GB :) Barracudas are good disks, maybe you can do with 750GB or even 500, depends on how you use diskspace (for ex. a lot of my diskspace used to be movies, but these days, I keep max. one two movies - either I stream online, or I have a computer connected to my TV, that has all the movies, and is also accessible from the home network)

Im not going to install *all* my FSX scenery on the SSD, just the most important. Secondly how big FPS drop are we talking about with loading scenerys (such as MegaSceneryX) from the 1 TB disk?

Anyone? Is this a good idea?

You only get faster load times with an SSD, there's no performance hit in-game from using a mech drive for FSX

So i can go with Win7 + FSX + NGX + REX2 on the SSD and the rest of the scenery on the 1TB drive with no FPS drop etc?

The whole point of SSD is so that all the changing stuff (textures and bgls) are loaded faster so that you dont have stutters when it all loads. You want to have your scenery on your SSD.

its 100%+ the price for 240 GB, money i dont have :( Im just wondering how big of a difference we are talking about when loading some of the scenery from the other drive ?

I'd consider waiting a month or two - brand new stuff coming very soon from Intel and Nvidia. (the GTX 680 is already out but the other cards in the 6 line are coming)

Ryan I need your help. Ive been playing fsx on my hp dv7 laptop using Rex, PMDG 747, NGX and captain sim but my fps ranges from 5 at night on the ground to 20 (my fsx is locked at 20) flying around empty areas like africa or the middle east. My specs are 2.0 ghz, 4gb RAM and ATI RADEON HD 4530. As it is i cannot run the ngx in europe or any place with dense sceneries which is why i fly in africa most of the time. Im going to uni soon and Im going for a new system but because I will be moving about and visiting places Im not comfortable with a desktop. What Im asking is what laptop is out there you reccomend that can run such addons on good fps (I also suffer frm memory probs but win7 canix tht)?
