- So... Maybe the Universe WON'T expand forever?
I was going to suggest it be called the Avbel Prize. By sharing a syllable with the Nobel Prize, it would acquire similar stature. Unfortunately, the name has already been taken.- So... Maybe the Universe WON'T expand forever?
Kardashev and Carl Sagan thought so, too: "Zoltan Galántai notes that neither Kardashev nor Sagan thought to extend the scale and define a Type IV (which would use the energy of an entire Universe). They simply did not envision a civilization capable of manipulating its environment on the largest possible scale (about 14 billion parsecs)."- So... Maybe the Universe WON'T expand forever?
I think so. It's not really an extension of the Kardashev Scale but is inspired by it. “In another article, Zoltan Galántai suggests considering another scale, no longer based on energy consumption, but on a civilization's ability to survive natural and cosmic disasters. Type I would describe a civilization capable of surviving a local natural disaster, like the Anasazi. A Type II civilization would have the means to withstand a regional or continental disaster, and finally Type III could face a global disaster such as an asteroid's impact, a supervolcano's eruption, or an ice age. Beyond the first three types are civilizations that have scattered throughout the galaxy. The Type IV civilization would still be vulnerable to some cosmic threats, while the Type V civilization would be technically immortal, as no cosmic catastrophe could reach it.”- So... Maybe the Universe WON'T expand forever?
Our only hope is to get up to the proposed Type V on the Kardashev Scale and move to another universe: "A Type V civilization would be advanced enough to to escape their universe of origin and explore the multiverse."- SIDs and STARs useless?
EDDF Charts have the statement: STARs are not used as normal procedure at Frankurt used as Lost Com procedure only. Transition to Final Approach used instead as Standard Arrival see Transition Charts / GPS/FMS RNAV Arrival. What would be the reason for this?- Zurich Intl Gate/Ramp info
Try asking at Aerosoft's Mega Airport Forum. Otherwise, for gate numbers for specific flights, you could check FlightAware.- Crescent wing obsolete, why?
- Windows 10 upgrade horror story
That's strange; I still have Core2 Duo and I had no trouble installing the Win10 upgrade. I did have a BSOD problem running Win10 (system thread exception not handled) but seem now to have solved it.- Why are squawk codes changed in flight?
I have noticed that the squawk code changes on transatlantic flights. For example today's Lufthansa flight DLH470 had the squawk code 0626 over Europe, then 6347 over Canada. Are transatlantic flights a special case?- Aircraft parking locations/gate plans?
Google EGCC Charts and choose NATS. The second chart on the list has all the parking spots. I'm sure someone will respond with which airlines use which spots.- Flightplans format
kevinh, Although you said that "The 747 FMC supposedly works better when importing a company route in RT2 format." and "RT2 format is a list of waypoints and airways, exactly as you would enter them manually in the FMC Route page.", if you do enter them manually and save the route, it is saved as .RTE.- Flight plan interpretation
If you E-mail FlightAware, they may give you a more complete flight plan for a given date. I have received some for EDDF to CYYZ. Then, for recent flights, I could use FlightRadar24 to figure out which SID was used.- Flight schools in UK?
More schools but no recommendations, which is what the OP really wanted.- Flight schools in UK?
Jetset408, Although your recommendations are exactly what the OP is looking for, there may be good schools which you are not aware of, so it's useful to have a reference list of what's available so that he can ask about the ones which have not yet been recommended, which may be geographically more suitable. Perhaps he already has a list and so mine is redundant.- Flight schools in UK?
I found Pilot magazine on Google, which has a list of flying schools in the UK arranged by county.- Toronto Area Flight Simulators
Regis9 I spent an hour with the Ufly 777 and I found it very realistic. I didn't do very well because I was too fascinated by the 180° outside view so I'm going back in a month or so to try again. I didn't consider Threshold Aviation because I don't have the 737 but I imagine the quality would be similar. If you want to have a serious flying experience, you should probably go with the one you are most familiar with, otherwise an hour can go by very quickly without you doing all that you want to do. You could contact Threshold and find out if the simulator can realistically do the things which are important to you.- Windows 10 reservations now available for Win 7 and 8 users!
I see the icon but, before I click on it, I want to know, if I don't like Windows 10, can I revert to my Windows 7?- The RAMA spacecraft: Nerdy Physics stuff for science Geeks
Patiently waiting..- The RAMA spacecraft: Nerdy Physics stuff for science Geeks
I think that, if the sequels had been pure Arthur Clarke rather than collaborations, they would have been more successful. Although I enjoyed the Rama books, I think my favourite is still Childhood's End.- Content I Follow
I notice that, on page 2 of this forum, there is a post entitled "My Content and Topics Following Not Available" which may answer your question.- Content I Follow
I'm sorry, I can't help you but I have to say your sense of humour keeps reminding me of the Vicar of Dibley.- Anyone own a 4 door sedan?
I had a 1999 (I think) Honda Accord 4 door sedan which had a flap behind the rear seat centre folding armrest. The flap could be opened from inside the trunk and I could slide 8 ft 2x4s through the flap so they would rest on the front and rear armrests and extend into the trunk. Is that widespread or just Honda?- CCTV Home package
Geese worked well for the Romans, plus they got a free supply of eggs.- How to deal with annoying (Vectors) entry in your FMC/CDU
I follow specific arrivals and departures on Flight Radar 24 to see what the typical vectors are. Where possible, I listen to LiveATC at the same time. I can then use that information to do a fairly realistic self-vector. - So... Maybe the Universe WON'T expand forever?
