FSX Default Jetway Texture Remapping

Featured Replies

Hello, I have been working on a new set of Scenery for Kpvd lately. I've been looking for the jetway model files to work with in Gmax, as I want to make a new texture mapping to seperate the diffrent sides of the main body so I can add airline logos, but can't seem to find them. Can anyone help me?

Do you mean the default jetways? And is this for FS 9 or FS X?

Best regards.

Sorry, call it a "Senior" moment; I have a lot of those recently. Just%20Kidding.gif

Try this:

GUID = bfcdf52b-9142-415c-8318-03c1b92ca9d9

And you can find it in the Airport Objects library. Use either Jon Masterson's decompiler or Luis Sà's SBuilderX or Arno Gerretsen's tools to get the model file.

Hi i am trying to do the same as southwestairlinesdude i am following your instructions and using Arno Gerretsen's tools and am very confused do you think you could make a video on how to do this or point me to one?

Ian Jacobson

I don't think this is going to work.

Yes you can extract the .mdl file from the .bgl, but then what?

You cannot edit the .mdl in GMax (as far as I know anyway) so how are you going to remap the textures?

You will probably have better luck creating your own jetways so you can map them as you wish.

Once you have the mdl file, simply use Arno's tool, ModelConverterX, to convert it to a format that you can load in gMax (or 3DS Max, if you are rich! Just%20Kidding.gif )

It is pretty straightforward, but if you have any problems, just ask. (And thanks again, Arno, for the great tools! :drinks: )

Let's see... try this, not complicated at all.

hey do yo know where i can get gmax

Ian Jacobson

so i am in gmax with the file loaded now what am i suppose to do?

Ian Jacobson

If you know how to use gMax, then you know what to do. If not, then you should probably first... learn how to use gMax Just%20Kidding.gif

But, maybe it would also help if you gave more details on what you want to do, besides just having a different jetway. Because there are different options available depending on that.

i just want to add the logo to the side

Ian Jacobson

Sure, that is quite easy, Ian. But, do you want all the jetways in all the world to display this logo, or just at one airport?

If the former, then simply edit the texture (mentioned above) so as to add the logo. You will have to extract the bitmap from the DDS file, edit it in your favorite image editing program, re-create the MIP maps, and re-convert it to DDS format.

If the latter, then:

1. do the above anyway, since you will need a modified texture.

2. Create a BMP or JPG copy of that texture that gMax can load, since I seem to remember that it won't use DDS textures.

3. Look at the model in gMax to see if it is what you want.

4. If so, you will have to give it a new GUID, different from that of the default. In the FS Tools menu, create a new GUID. Copy this GUID.

5. In the File menu, get the Properties for the file and add the GUID in the Custom tab.

6. Export the model (MDL).

7. Either place the MDL directly in your scenery using one of the above mentioned tools, or

8. create an object library with that MDL and then place it using any object placement tool that you wish.

Any questions, just ask. Everybody is glad to help. :Peace:

Good luck with your project.

Best regards.
