April 21, 201214 yr Ian, you are trying to run before you can walk. There's nothing wrong with that; the immersion will probably help you to learn much quicker. :good: Here is the problem. 1. You want various different jetways, each with a different texture representing a different company. 2. These various jetways will be placed on the same airport. 3. So, each jetway must be a separate object, each one having its own GUID and its own texture. The first place to start is by modifying the texture. 1. Use the ImageTool in the SDK to extract the bitmap from the DDS. 2. Paint the texture(s) to your liking. 3. Save one copy as a BMP (or JPG) for use in gMax, and one copy as a BMP that you will convert back to DDS for use in FS X. 4. Import this latter texture into ImageTool, create the MIP maps, and convert back to DDS. This is the texture you will place in your local scenery folder. 5. In gMax, import the MDL of the jetway. 6. Change the Material for the jetway from the default texture to the one you modified and see if you like the way it looks. 7. Follow the instructions I wrote concerning creating a new GUID, exporting and placing the jetway. 8. Repeat as often as you wish for different jetways. If you don't know how to use gMax, the thread pinned at the top of this forum was made just for you. :Peace: It contains a wealth of information, although much of it is very old (but so are we! :LMAO: ), and particularly will point you to resources concerning gMax and many tutorials on its use. April 22, 201214 yr Luis, I think the bigger problem is the default jetways use the same texture for the sides, the top and the bottom. Without remapping the jetways he will end up with logos on the top and bottom, which is what he is trying to avoid. I don't know gMax, so I don't know if this is possible? regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
April 22, 201214 yr i got a little confused here what exactly do you mean by 6. Change the Material for the jetway from the default texture to the one you modified and see if you like the way it looks. Ian Jacobson
April 22, 201214 yr Thank you, Joe. I am not particularly expert on the default jetway. However, it is certainly possible to remap the entire model with different parts of the texture, that should not be a problem. Ian, gMax does have a very complete Help file that you should consult when terms are unfamiliar. Very sorry, I don't do instructional videos but expect everybody to make the effort to learn on their own. The WWW is full of tutorials of all sorts on gMax, and if you really want a Youtube video the first thing you should do is... search Youtube, since that video is probably already there. :LMAO: Best regards. April 22, 201214 yr no i did not see any youtube videos i will check the help area on how to add and image Ian Jacobson
May 26, 201214 yr Ian, please kindly provide detailed information on what you find difficult and how you are trying to resolve it. The key word here is "detailed" - the more detail you provide, the easier it is to find a solution. Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
May 26, 201214 yr when i get the jetway model into gmax it does not look like it did in modle converter it's just abounch of lines. Ian Jacobson
May 26, 201214 yr Again, we need much more details and screenshots in order to understand the issue. Perhaps you are importing the model correctly, but you simply don't know how to use gMax? If so, then you should certainly consult any of the numerous tutorials on this program. The pinned topic at the top of this forum contains some references, but a simple Google search will also find many of them. Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
May 27, 201214 yr I have never played with the FSX jetway, but I would be surprised if Arno's Model Converter tool is able to extract the needed skinned animation/bones data needed for gmax/3ds. There is a youtube video by Adrian Woods that shows how to make a jetway in gmax, but it is tricky. scott s. .
May 27, 201214 yr i am in the imagetool that comes with the sdk but can't figure out how to extract the bitmap from the dds Ian Jacobson
May 27, 201214 yr Commercial Member Indeed, the animations are lost on export to gmax and have to be added again. Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos Arno If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done.
