EGPWS

Is there anyway to port across the EGPWS to the -11 from the NGX?

If you're talking about the terrain display, no. If you're talking about the sounds I don't think there is.

I'm talking about bringing EGPWS to the MD-11.

There would be no point or way to bring the sounds across from the NGX without working in the whole thing, I assume you know the difference between GPWS and EGPWS?

Anyway, in short I would like to be able to have the Terrain on ND function along with the alerting that EGPWS provides...

I guess it should be possible to merge the "gauge" file that is running the EGPWS functions within the NGX and add the relevant pushbutton to the MD-11 to show terrain on ND.

From the EULA:

f. You may not alter, reverse engineer or otherwise modify any portion of this

software except as described in this license.

Does it say anywhere where it cannot be distributed as payware/freeware? I'll have a read of it but he might be able to do it but just keep it to himself, though it will be hard as I'm guessing he won't get to much help from PMDG.

If you mean the altitude callouts, yes it's possible to copy them over. Find the folder where the PMDG MD-11 altitude callouts are located. Now copy the altitude callouts from the PMDG 737NGX to somewhere you like, rename them to the names of the PMDG MD-11 altitude callouts (otherwise it won't work). Now copy the callouts from the PMDG 737NGX that you just renamed, into the PMDG MD-11 altitude callouts folder, and overwrite when prompted. it should work now.

This is exactly what I did not mean!

I wanted to bring EGPWS to the MD-11 EGPWS is more than some callouts!

Just changing the sounds wont give the MD-11 EGPWS.

In a nutshell EGPWS brings to the aircraft a terain database and alerting functions as to what is ahead of the aircraft.

GPWS works on radio altitude information and can only warn what is below the aircraft.

TBH, I don't see why PMDG would not upgrade the MD-11 with EGPWS from the NGX if it is not too many man hours.

The answer to your question is no, there is no way to merge it yourself. PMDG could build one if they wanted to put in the hours, but my understanding is that there are no intended updates for the MD-11.

I am making an assumption here, but I do not believe it would be easy to implement in the MD-11 simulation. Remember that PMDG stated many many times that the NGX was a completely new coding process. MD-11 is still on the old one.

Hello,

There is no way I could ever be able to do it myself, and I don't want it. But I agree with the OP, I would really like to know if it is possible for PMDG to use the EGPWS of the NGX in the MD-11.

I have no idea if this is a long and difficult job. Ma be it is programmed as a module so it isn't so difficult, but I am not a programmer.

But if it can be done and PMDG is willing to build it, I would love to pay for it (if reasonable).

I would appreciate if someone of PMDG would give an answer.

Thanks for your time.

I just found this topic and not sure why Bank_Angle is acting so authoritarian without an explanation that goes into a little more detail. We in this group are not dumb and citing the EULA is not how to answer the question.

Maybe Ryan could weigh in on the terrain mapping issue in the MD11 as to why it was not done or could it be done?
